The amount of fun to be had traversing the excellently designed levels with almost telepathic control intuition would be more than enough to recommend this, but ARVORE has gone above and beyond to ensure this one sticks in the memory long after completion.

Pixel Ripped: 1989 is a brilliantly fun VR throwback that's hampered by a short length and wild difficulty spikes.

A nostalgic trip to the 80s that will make the oldest players remember feelings from the past. An original concept (play a handheld inside a virtual game) that homages, with a great sense of humor, lots of clichés and games that grew with us. A little wonder that only last 2-3 hours, but it's so genius that you will remember it for a long time.

In the end, Pixel Ripped 1989 is a superb VR experience that'll make you have flashbacks if you grew up in the '80s or '90s.

Pixel Ripped 1989 does what it sets out to do, to pay homage to the gaming past and tries not to repeat but takes the memories and enjoyment of gaming and giving that homage the respect it deserves.

There aren't many games with such a surety of visual design as Pixel Ripped 1989, but while it's deeply referential it retains its own unique character and flavour. It's perhaps aggravatingly tough at times, and fundamentally you'll be playing a Game Boy game for a good portion of your time here, but it's undoubtedly a VR experience you won't have seen before.

We highly encourage anyone who is currently a VR user to pick up Pixel Ripped 1989 as soon as possible. It’s a solid experience and did something that few other virtual reality games have ever done to me – make me forget I’m in virtual reality. The gameplay is fun (even if a bit more difficult than you’d expect at times) and the concept is great. It’s a tad longer than most other VR games out there, and comes in at a very reasonable price.
