SoulCalibur VI comes as a welcome addition to the series despite some niggles. Overall, the package is grand and certainly appeals to fans of the franchise. It’s an accessible title for newcomers and generally heaps of fun to play across all its modes. Obviously, the lack of a bigger budget shows here, but what is provided is enough to charm like-minded players. That said, the creation mode whilst limited in comparison to previous offerings is the star of the show. It’s a game in itself to customise the default roster or make your own deranged or beautiful fighter. The fact players share creations online is a massive boon.

In all, I’m pleased by my scrappy fights, and my tutelage of Hooves the horse man continues.

It’s true that there’s surprisingly little in the way of innovation in Soulcalibur VI, and I’m not one hundred percent on board with condoning a game that takes so few risks and perhaps feels several new characters short of a final product. Yet while this complaint still stands, I can mostly forgive it because, at its best, Soulcalibur VI is a giddy pile of fun. It’s fun because it’s a particularly well-tuned version of the same free-flowing slashy-kicky fest the series has always been, but now it’s also on PC. It’s fun because it has good online matchmaking options that actually seem to work. It’s fun because the character creator is ridiculous and good and excessive. It’s fun because it’s an intuitive fighting game that provides some self-improvement tools for the competitively-minded. I like it, basically, despite how it took me a while to be sure I was even playing a new title, and I hope it sticks around for a while.

The new mechanics of SOULCALIBUR VI don’t overshadow the true refinement done to the series. It’s easy to get lost in slamming buttons, but even easier to want to learn each character’s moves.

SoulCalibur VI is a blast to play on your own or with others, as it largely improves upon the best parts of the SoulCalibur series.

To quote the announcer from SC3, Soul Calibur VI is “seriously wounded, but the soul still burns”.

Soul Calibur VI is definitely steps in the right direction of reminding people why Bandai Namco has the best fighters not named Street Fighter, and I’m excited to see who else joins the fray in the series’ future.

Soul Calibur has always been unique with its 8-way movement system and is hands-down the best fighter of it's kind. If you're a fan of fighting games at all, then play this game. You won't regret it.

Soul Calibur VI revives a series that may have been lost to time by learning from what worked best and introducing creative and unique mechanics to its already solid gameplay.

Soulcalibur VI is a solid entry in the long-running fighting franchise. The new Reversal Edge mechanic gives everyone a chance at a comeback, with a balanced risk that their move may backfire on the player who invoked the move. A decent campaign is paired with a beefier custom story mode, to provide for dozens of hours of gameplay, even if most of the cutscenes are more visual novel than actual cutscene. Barebones online options may leave some players wanting more, but getting to the action is as quick as ever because of a sharp focus. Time will tell if these improvements can translate to better sales, but Soulcalibur VI is one game all fighting fans should pick up.

Overall, SoulCalibur 6 is a solid reboot of the franchise. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but focuses on sanding off the rough edges and returning the gameplay and storyline to the basics. The result is a game that's a distillation of what makes the SoulCalibur franchise fun. There's enough room and depth for people to get into the real -gritty of the gameplay, but there's also a lot of room for enjoyable fighting. It's a bit difficult to justify the purchase just for the single-player portion, but it's excellent for a couch party game — just like SoulCalibur should be.

Soulcalibur VI is an excellent fighter that takes the 2.5D fighter further into the 3D realm. Great characters and interesting lore provide an unforgettable single-player experience, while multiplayer is just as great, thanks to a deep, yet accessible, fighting system.

Soul Calibur VI is the best looking and best playing game of the series, but the number of available options and characters is lacking. Fighting game fans will still have a blast in this stage of history, but don't be surprised if it leaves you wanting more.

SoulCalibur VI may have a couple of rough spots but shines as an example of a great fighting game with plenty of love given to nearly every detail.

All in all, it’s a game that simply goes above and beyond what normal fighting games do. From the overall aesthetic to the fluidity of its unique combat. The two-story modes offer unique experiences and online matches give the game value in replayability. And I’m probably a broken record at this point but Libra of Souls is definitely the star of the show as it encourages players to be creative while also experimental.

SoulCalibur VI as a fighting game is all style over substance. While it retains most of its tactical combat it is easily the most user-friendly title in the series and for some longtime fans, that may be more discouraging than a return to form.

A fighter with a great roster and exciting brawls, let down by an undercooked singleplayer component.

SoulCalibur VI is an excellent fighting game and it reignites the flame of this wonderful series. The gameplay is fantastic and the online mode is also very good. The single-player mode has plenty of content and the character-creation mode continues to please. Geralt was a great choice of a guest character, too. The negative point goes to the story mode told in the form of text or dialogues (it lacks the production that Tekken 7 received). Other negative points are the absence of some fan favorite characters, and the few new ones (only two, besides Geralt).

With robust single-player offerings, as well as a fast paced and dynamic fighting system, Soulcalibur VI represents the best the series has been for a long time. It has a great and diverse roster of characters, and Geralt fits right into the world too. It's just a little bit of a shame that it's missing a few things from previous games. Despite this, Soulcalibur VI is easily the best Soulcalibur game and one of the best 3D fighters you can play right now.
