Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is an innovative game that combines traditional card games with RPG games, and the game has been able to bring new and interesting characters into the rich Witcher world, with good graphics and a constantly renewed fighting style. I can say that Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales surprised me Personally, it is a card game but suffers from some drop in the frame rate and freezing of the unwarranted screen. The game may give preference to those who play Gwent: The Witcher Card Game by winning special cards as they progress in the game they can use in the Gwent game.

Clever, beautiful and more intricate and expansive than I expected a card game to be, you will scratch your noggin for some devilish puzzles, while following on a story of one of the biggest threats the Northern Kingdoms ever faced: the armies of Nilfgaard.

I spent thirty hours with Thronebreaker and, while a couple of hours were me moving through the motions of easy gwent matches, the vast majority saw me hooked to the screen either listening to the narrator and cast of characters bringing scenes to life or trying to figure out how to stop spies making it from one end of the gwent table to the other. If you want a great story set in the Witcher world, then I recommend Thronebreaker.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales offers beauty in a very unexpected genre, mastering the art of storytelling combined with amazing RPG elements, to memorable characters and gut-wrenching decisions that challenge your values and morale. It presents a card game we’ve previously been introduced to, GWENT, that sucks players in, even those who are not fans of card games.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a card game that takes certain elements from Role Playing and Puzzle genres and manages to introduce a new series based on the world of Witcher. despite this, it's not similar to the famous Gwent game from the Witcher 3 and is a completely new game.

Thronebreaker isn’t completely the Gwent I knew and loved, but after learning the new rules and ways I found myself having fun. For all about ten to thirty minutes before I was crashed back to the PS4 dashboard with a blue screen. Not in all my life had I experienced a title die like this before and actually make me worry about the health of my gaming console. Art design, voice acting, and the basic traversal around the world did a great job bringing a simple card game to life. It’s just that all of them were smothered by the color blue.

Thronebreaker gives those into the card game a good opportunity to test their skills and earn a few new cards and bonuses, while also offering an interesting way for those more into the narrative side of The Witcher the chance to enjoy more time in the world, though it never manages to portray the best of either element.

Thronebreaker is CDPR's first non traditional RPG. The studio knew how to capitalize their abilities creating an interactive narrative experience with a cativating plot and characters, and a deep, well designed card game as its core. However, I noticed a bit of difficulty on creating significant consequences or adversity imposed on the player, unable to make each playthrough feel different from the last.

Fans familiar with CD Projekt Red’s talents in storytelling won’t be surprised to read that the adventure and decision making in this game is impressive or even that this version of Gwent plays well. What is surprising is that is title blends three genres into a single cohesive piece, engineered to be the perfect combo without lacking too much in any particular way.

The characters are layered and sympathetic; the twisting, turning plotline engaging; and the moral dilemmas fascinating in their unintended consequences.

Your mileage may vary based on how well you enjoyed Gwent in The Witcher 3, but if you’ve been looking for a fresh perspective on Andrzej Sapkowski’s dense world and lore then we can’t recommend it enough.

I meant to buy Thronebreaker for the Nintendo Switch, but a nice deal on Steam swayed me to the PC version. Comparing the mouse against controller, I found it just as easy to use a controller for this game. So, controls-wise, I expect the Switch port to be a comfortable experience as well. Finally, a parental note: The age rating is US Teen and UK 12+ because of the brutality portrayed in war (and generally pervasive in the Witcher games). But blood is hardly shown and only in faded colors; visually depicted gore is non-existent. There are a few images of corpses hanging from trees, but that’s as scary as it gets. The monsters were less grotesque-looking than in The Witcher 3, but a younger child may still find them scary. As someone who loved Witcher 3 and Gwent but detested the ugly monsters and gore, I was thrilled that Thronebreaker was heavily toned down in those areas.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is the excuse we've been waiting for a long time to dive back into a world we love. Interesting and challenging mechanics, fantastic story and characters, incredible dubbing and a wonderful soundtrack. In its apparent simplicity, Thronebreaker is one of the most successful titles of the year.
