Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a rerelease of slightly touched up Nintendo DS games for modern hardware. It retains all the limitations of past hardware, missing sounds, voiced dialogs and offering not much more than a bit of context to a few common memes.

For a trilogy that’s been ported so often, very little has been done to address the niggles that do exist, and that’s a shame.

TAKE THIS! Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, the classic courtroom visual novel, all about a rookie defence attorney, has managed to make its way onto the current generation of consoles. The important question to ask: Does this game guilty of being an overpriced cash grab or does it prove that there is still enjoyment in this port of the original trilogy? Let’s find out.

If you have never played the Phoenix Wright games, the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a decent enough place to start. However the lack of any extras or improvements make it tough to recommend if you've played the Phoenix Wright games before.

Full of quirky characters and the convoluted cases to solve, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is still a great visual novel adventure, and it's been thoroughly spruced up for modern consoles. It's not the most adventurous of remasters, but there's a real charm to these games that's great for newcomers as well as fans revisiting the series.

There's no denying that breaking down an arrogant witness, and ultimately winning a case in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney feel fantastic. Fitting in the right pieces of evidence to find contradictions is extremely satisfying, I just wish there was more depth, and a little more nuance, to both the witnesses you're breaking down, and the game at large.

The sheer age of the games are beginning to count against them but Ace Attorney still remains exhibit A in how to make even the silliest story-based games fun and engaging.

It is a shame Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy doesn’t do anything special for today’s age of gaming, but everything that is done, is flawless.

If the audience is there, then these home console versions of Ace Attorney are very welcome as I have no objection to more Phoenix Wright.

Whichever title you end up preferring, there’s an absurd amount of truly enjoyable content here, and you’ll struggle to find anything as unique as these three Phoenix Wright games.

A must buy. Case closed. There are so many reasons to pick this up. For those who haven't tried the series out, this debut on other consoles add up to a wonderful incentive. It's amazing that even 20 years on, these still hold up. The only thing that lets this collection down is that there is little extra to elevate this remaster, other than just a graphical overhaul. Regardless of this small bump, these remain some of the very best Visual Novels out there and with no end in sight for the series, this glimpse of them arriving on new platforms is very promising.

Phoenix Wright's story and humor stand the test of time, but the graphical upgrades do it no favors. While voiceovers would be appreciated, the sound effects and dialogue are creative enough to make up for it.

Phoenix Wright's courtroom sojourns pack every bit the punch now that they did almost two decades ago. Any opinion to the contrary merits a very loud and emphatic objection.
