Ultimately, I can't help but feel like the Senran Kagura series is at its best when it's exploring other concepts like water gun tournaments, cooking, and even pinball. There's just more room for creativity all around. Outside of the catchy and upbeat Japanese rock music, almost every aspect of Burst Re:Newal is extraordinarily low budget and mind-numbingly simplistic.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is a breath of fresh air after the fumbles of the last few games in the series. I got on board with this franchise for the unique characters and addictive combat, and this game has both of those things in spades. It's a treat to see the origins of the cast redone on home console, but if you've never played a single game in the series before, Burst Re:Newal is the best this franchise has to offer for you.

A good remake of an old and simple game that now is way more beautiful, but it's still entertaining despite it repetitiveness.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is a nice gateway into the franchise and a very good remake of the 3DS classic but one that won't offer much for players of Estival Versus thanks to a lot of reuse.

With fast and fluid combat, endearing characters and a grounded story that isn't afraid to crack a few jokes, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal represents the series at it's finest. That said, if you take issue with the sexualization of its characters, then this game is not for you.

Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal is an interesting remake of a 3DS game from 2013. The combat and visuals have been overhauled to fit the times, but there's nothing ground-breaking. The cute yet tough girls are a treat to play as, even though combat can get repetitive.

Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal is a complete remake of the original 3DS game, which received new mechanics and more advanced graphics, but bogged down in boredom and monotony, which turned out to be too heavy a burden even for such a frivolous game.

It’s a fun, vapid and over the top action game that doesn’t shy away from what it is – a game about sexy ninja girls. Sometimes I don’t need a game to be deep or hit me with the feels, sometimes I just need to relax and undress my opponents, and really, is that such a bad thing to ask?

You'll possibly come for the waifus, but you'll probably stay for the story and most importantly for the fun and interesting gameplay.

On the surface, there's nothing wrong with buying and enjoying a product made by a company eager to provide exactly that product—in this case, busty dress-up dolls that want for nothing other than to fulfill your wants. I just don't find that very interesting or compelling. If that's what you're looking for, whatever floats your boat. But I can't help but feel you can get the desired half of “Dynasty Warriors with TnA” with some quick googling. The end result is the same, but one is free, and the other is Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal.

Beyond the cheap titillation, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal offers plenty of solid action and drama, all wrapped up in a gorgeous visual package that makes a tempting jumping on point for anyone who has ever wanted to hop into the long-running franchise.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal isn't perfect, nor were either of the previous versions, but it is fun in a mindless way. Sure, it doesn't have anywhere near the same options of your standard Dynasty Warriors game, though there is enough to have fun. Add in a cute story, cuter girls and tons of costumes to play around with and it makes for an okay experience. So, if you enjoy the Senran series or want to see where it all began, this is a fantastic choice, though if you want something a little more complicated, I'd wait for something else.

All in all, this game had great aesthetics and commentary, but it was entirely too repetitive. Every ‘mission' was pretty much the same, but increased in difficulty throughout the game. I would give this game a 6.5/10 rating, but it is also a cult favorite and I respect those who have love for this game.

Rich story containing too many tired anime tropes told through tedious text crawls. Combat sequences are fun but are too short.

The beat-em-up gameplay won't blow you away, but Senran Kagura: Burst Re:Newal has a surprising amount of fun in just about every other avenue that ended up making this game a pretty enjoyable experience overall. I'm not a big fan of perverted games but this one is just so over the top nonsensical about it, it ends up being rather charming. Just remember kids: This is a wholesome game, when petting your underage waifu...don't you push that squeeze button.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is a solid love letter to its burgeoning fanbase. The 3D action gameplay is a huge step above the original’s 2.5D combat. The anime stylized visuals look quite nice, the beat ’em up gameplay provides some bouts of entertainment, and the story is a bit deeper than you’d expect. But what keeps it from being a true recommendation is its repetitive gameplay and all too obvious reliance on boobs, butts, and…well, you know what else. Fans will love it, of course. It’s a remake that caters to them and them only. Everyone else should steer clear of its perverted thrills.

There are games that do genuine sexiness better, and there aren't many out there that have the wild, unbound entertainment value of Senran Kagura.
