With its camera manipulation and touch controls Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker feels like one of those rare titles that is uniquely designed with the Wii U in mind, a game that just wouldn't be possible to this level of quality on another platform. It's not a definitive reason to pick up a Wii U, but if you already own then this is one of the best showcases of its playful potential yet. Chock full of variety and stunning to look at, this would be a fantastic addition to any Nintendo fan's library.

Here's why a risky idea for a game was actually a great idea with a wonderful execution.

'Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker' is truly a gem of a game to play. It is also one of the biggest Wii U surprises I've had since first buying the console. Who would have thought that developing a handful of mini-games for 'Super Mario 3D World' could turn into such a charming game? Although fairly short, the overall experience is one that I will not soon forget. 'Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker' simply should not be missed.

Perhaps in the coming years, we'll start to see more games like this: smaller, mid-priced experiments and spin-offs made with that familiar level of polish and care for which the publisher is rightly famed. Even if Treasure Tracker arguably never quite reaches its full potential, surely few would argue with this line of thinking. Indeed, its central mechanic feels rather like a statement in itself; perhaps this is Nintendo's way of motivating its designers and players alike to embrace the idea of approaching the familiar from a fresh perspective.

I felt like I was a kid again finding those insects underneath the rocks, but running away at the bees that came out at times. Light on content, but a satisfying little romp that will be sure to charm everyone. Despite a price tag of $40, the game is sure to be an entertaining experience for the player. I would recommend this title to anyone who wants to try a little something new, and for Mario series fans alike – this game has something for everyone.

If you already own or have played Captain Toad on Wii U, the greater majority of the game is likely to feel identical. A lot of it is very familiar the second time around, including the exact spots of hidden objects and how to avoid all the hurdles in your way. While there’s still a good amount of fun things to do packed in, now would have been more fitting for a Captain Toad sequel. Nevertheless, Captain Toad can hold up as a thoroughly enjoyable standalone game, especially to newcomers. There are over 70 levels to trek through, complete with a plethora of collectibles and secrets to uncover that will keep even the most dedicated fans engaged for numerous hours.

For a re-release Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is a pretty good pick. The short nature of the levels and touch controls make it perfect for Switch, especially when playing on the go.

Indiana Jones for children – there is no better way to describe Captain Toads adventure. The journey through various lovingly designed places is a pleasure for young and old. Optics and sound are convincing on Nintendo 3DS and even the length of the game isn't disappointing. Only the unoriginal story clouds the gaming experience a litte.

It turns out that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is still a fun time albeit one that could do with a healthier dose of fresh content in this Switch version. Walking the line between platformer and puzzler, the game’s light sprinkling of elements from both help create an experience that’s fun for all ages.

With this being our third review of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, we're running out of ways to praise this fantastic little puzzle game! It's easily one of Nintendo's most polished spinoffs to date and the fact that they've brought it over to 3DS with so few compromises is something to be commended.

This is the same game we enjoyed four years ago in Wii U. A perfect mix between puzzles and platforms, which includes four new Super Mario Odyssey inspired levels and a new (pretty basic) coop mode.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is one of the most delightfully charming puzzle games of in recent memory and the dollhouse-style puzzle boxes are wonderful to explore and it's cute and adorable all the way through. Sadly, Wii U owners will find few reasons to pick up this edition of the game, but anyone who hasn't already played Captain Toad will find a puzzle game they'll finish and just want more of.

A sweet and relaxing experience based on the Super Mario universe with Toad as our main character. Each level is a puzzle by itself and it needs tons of patience and to be able to play with prospective.

Just like Captain Toad, if you can't jump, you'd better use your brain. This down-to-earth approach transforms the environments into puzzles that require to look harder - and dig deeper - than expected in order to find all of their design treasures. And despite a lack of additional content, such wonders get even shinier on Switch.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is another great Wii U game that is made better by the Nintendo Switch's portability. It's a fun experience that doesn't overstay its welcome, but definitely does feel repetitive in certain areas.
