GOOD - Shooter fans should find plenty to like with Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight. The game doesn’t really offer anything revolutionary, but if you’re looking for a quick fix to knock some planes out of the sky this one should do the trick.

What absolutely works well for the title is the aerial combat itself...

If Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight offered more original and enjoyable core gameplay, it would be a highly recommendable game.

Its simplistic combat and dull mission structures mean it quickly runs out of steam for anything other than quick bursts of play, and the Switch has plenty of games that can fill that need in a far more compelling way.

Warplanes: WW2 Dogfights is a perfect example of how not to port something to Switch and is somewhat damning to the mobile game environment in general. You cannot simply throw a freemium cell phone game on the eShop, break the progression system, and expect it to meet the expectations of that market. What passes for a game on a cell phone often comes in well below the bar of an dedicated game system.

With historical planes galore, Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight is an easy pick-up-and-play game that’s hard to put down.

It’s hard to judge Warplanes too harshly as a bargain-priced flight game on the Switch. There are at least 5-6 hours of fun to be had with the game, and despite the repetition, the bite-sized missions (which rarely last more than five to ten minutes) make for a pleasant diversion over short play sessions.

I had more fun with Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight than I expected. It isn't a game I'd normally consider if I wasn't reviewing it. I feel that like-minded players will miss out because of this, while genuinely hard-core pilots will be disappointed by the simplicity of the dogfights. I was genuinely surprised by the game's level of depth outside the cockpit and how much I enjoyed it. If you like simple shooters and sims that extend beyond the tarmac, I'd consider checking this one out.

WarPlanes: WW2 Dogfight offers a fun light-hearted dog fight experience for players. Despite its repetitive mission types and unbalanced visuals, the title still is a fun arcade experience. If your looking for a quick dogfighting flight fix, then it might be worth checking out WarPlanes.

Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight tries to fill in a gap in the Nintendo Switch catalogue when it comes to aerial combat games. While it provides a good amount of aircraft and missions to fulfill, the overall experience is very disappointing: its heavy and clunky gameplay feels very removed from what the game is supposed to deliver and its sub-par visual environment, not to mention almost absent audio component, make this an effort that is better left outside the radar of all but the most hardcore and needy aerial combat fans.

Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight is a pretty decent aerial combat title with engaging battles and a bit of variety, but it also becomes repetitive quickly and the grinding nature when it comes to unlocking new planes is a bit too impeding.  Perfect for those short bursts of gaming when you have little time.
