Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is a solid 3DS port that both builds upon and takes away from the original Wii title's charm.

Nearly a decade after its original release and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is still an absolute joy to play. It oozes charm and style, and its gorgeous visuals, excellent soundtrack, and creative use of platforming make up for the lackluster new content.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn brings back the unique, stringy platforming of the Wii original and then some, adding new mini-games and a harder difficulty mode to boot. Unfortunately, it also takes out the original's excellent co-op mode, which will be a bummer for folks who are hoping to play the game with friends and family once more. It's not a deal breaker, especially for folks who don't have interest in multiplayer. For people like me who had a blast with co-op in the Wii version, however, it just makes this rendition feel a little bit less epic.

While essentially the structure is the same there are a few differences when it comes to Kirby's moves and the co-op component is no longer available, but nonetheless, the experience is largely similar: this is a very simple game, with a difficulty level that does not require too much from the players and it should be seen as something to relax, rather than to compete over. This is both its strong and weak point, as many players will not feel attracted by its philosophy, while others will eagerly welcome it.

For a game that's 10 years old, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is still a fun experience, though it's sad that you can't share it with friends.

Although this is not Nintendo's best enhanced port for 3DS, Kirby Extra Epic Yarn is a fun and cute platformer, which addresses the major complaint about the original, the difficulty. Still, we would have liked to see the coop even in this version.

If you played the original game on the Wii, you'll have to ask yourself how much the new extras, admirable though they are, trump the missing multiplayer. However, for those yet to experience it, it's certainly worth picking up Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn on 3DS. It's a high-quality package with charming aesthetics and a good amount of content for the price that should keep you playing.

I could tell they were trying to address the difficulty complaints, and they definitely delivered on giving the player the tools to make a harder experience. But ultimately, it comes down to how hard you want to make it for yourself. I wouldn't call it "Extra Epic," because of these shortcomings.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is still a cute and enjoyable game, but although it's seen some improvements, it's more of a lateral move than an upgrade.

Though threadbare with new content, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn remains as charmingly adorable and cleverly designed as ever.

Sure to be one of the final, first-party, big games on 3DS, as it slowly winds down into retirement, but at least it's going out with a bang. As this is definitely the best Kirby game to hit the platform to date, and easily one of the best platformers. Yoshi may be the star of the woolly show at the moment, with Yoshi's Crafted World landing on Switch soon, but Kirby did it first and did it best. This is an utterly charming patchwork that's absolutely impossible not to get tangled up in.

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is a near perfect port. The improvements Nintendo and Good-Feel have incorporated into the game should appease fans that wanted a more faithful Kirby title the first time around, while also giving players more reason to stick with the game after the credits have rolled.

There's enough on display here that, if you were a big fan of Kirby's Epic Yarn, you could get at least get a couple more hours of entertainment out of it. However, assuming you're not a big fan, than I would suggest waiting for something with a bit more substance to come out, which should be around Metroid Prime 4's release.

For those that missed out on the original, Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is a solid 3DS port, albeit with a few lapses in usability. While the main campaign can be completed in just short of ten hours, both newcomers and returning fans alike can share in the joy of the opulent worldly textures, adorable animations and a beautifully simple storyline to ‘bobbin’ and out of.

Although it doesn't take full advantage of what the 3DS is capable of, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is a must-have portable version of a top-notch Wii game complete with plenty of impressive extra content that complements an already great 2D platformer.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn got everything from the Wii-Version and even more on top of that. If the original version was to easy for you, there's a new challenging mode and other nice additions. Besides missing the good coop-mode from the wii-version this is a no brainer for Kirby Fans that haven't played the original version on the Wii.

The 3DS version is by far superior to the Wii counterpart, and still offers enough new content that it’s worth a double dip. With all the new abilities, extras, as well as the Amiibo support, it’s a fantastic little port which manages to work wonderfully on 3DS and is a typically wonderful Nintendo platformer which really takes the Kirby franchise in fascinating new directions. This is a true classic Nintendo platformer in every sense of the word.
