FIFA 20 brings back street football along with some significant core engine changes, but do they make 2020 a must-have year for fans of the franchise?
FIFA 2020 builds off the success of previous installments. There aren't any groundbreaking steps that were taken to enhance the overall experience, but I don't think FIFA needs that just yet. Perhaps a few years into the future, they can look to make some major changes, but like I said before, their formula (the way the game plays) is working and it would be foolish to drift away from it. If demand were to go down, that would be the time to make appropriate adjustments.
The FIFA franchise has successfully faced off against a wide variety of adversaries since its resurgence a decade ago:
Career mode gets a much needed upgrade while the gameplay has been tweaked enough to feel like a challenge again. VOLTA Football is incredibly fun and a throwback to FIFA Street. It isn't perfect and career mode still has a lot that can be addressed, but EA listened and made upgrades beyond a roster update.
Apparently, EA Sports is preparing for a new generation of consoles and saved all the major changes in the mechanics and graphics for next year. Therefore, the only fresh solution was the Volta mode, which replaced last year's story and managed to bring new sensations to the project. In all other respects, FIFA 20 can be called a minor update, created for fans who buy games in the series on an annual basis. If you are not interested in street football, it is better to wait for discounts.

FIFA 20 is not an overhaul for the series, but combines its top tier core gameplay with some neat additions such as the fun Volta game mode.
FIFA 20 is quite similar to the previous version in its intentions. It's all about attack, dribbling and even if defence has been a bit tweaked, it's easy to see EA Sports wants to offer spectular football before realism. Those who are okay with this vision will love it, and some additions like Volta, very pleasant, are, with a better Career mode and an always addictive FUT, will help to keep playing it for the whole year, until FIFA 21.

If you’ve been looking for a reason to take the plunge and upgrade, consider this your penalty kick in the pants.
FIFA 20 doesn't reinvent the game of soccer, but it does an admirable job of reinventing how its played. New game modes, animations, and improved player and ball physics make this the best soccer game on the market.
It’s not perfect, but it’s the biggest step forward for the series for a few years. It might be the best one to pick up if you haven’t played FIFA in a while.
Overall, FIFA 20 is a gift wrapped with flair and flamboyance on the outside. When you unwrap it, rather than it brimming to the full, it leaves you a little underwhelmed. It's still good, there's lots to be found inside and it will no doubt keep you busy for hours on end, but there's just not the same magic inside as there is on the outside.
With VOLTA, FIFA 20 could have been the best game in the series - if it had not problems in Career Mode and FUT.
