It’s always a risk creating a sequel to a cult classic so long after the original, but in Psychonauts 2, Double Fine hasn't only made a game that respects the original and takes its characters to new heights, it has set itself, and new owner Microsoft, up with a platforming franchise that can thrive for years to come.
Even if you are a newcomer to the series, Psychonauts 2 is an excellent standalone 3D platformer, with the most creative level design since Super Mario Odyssey.
Psychonauts 2 is an adventure I won’t forget anytime soon. It’s filled with moments of laughs, tears, and even some confusion, but that’s what makes it unique. Fans who have been waiting for this game since finishing the first game 16 years ago, you’re in for a real treat.
Double Fine's sequel to the classic action-adventure platformer from 2005 is everything we hoped to get from Raz's new adventure. Its charming but hilariously written characters and story, stupidly fun platform sequences, gorgeous level design and stunning art style make it a serious game of the year contender.
Despite the shortcomings, the World of Psychonauts is worth a visit. Sure, we had hoped for a more refined experience, but there is still a lot to like here – and the noisy fans who have longed for years for the sequel will be pleased.

Psychonauts 2 delivers on all fronts. It’s a labor of love from Double Fine with over a decade and a half in the making. The positives outweigh the negatives in such a way that I find myself thinking that this is easily a GOTY contender. When you play Psychonauts 2, you will instantly be transported into a world of intrigue, action, great platforming, and cinematics that will make you feel you are watching a movie from Pixar, it’s just that good.
We loved Psychonauts 2. This narrative adventure of 3D platforms more than fulfills the function of offering us something entertaining and interesting enough to give it a try. He deals with serious topics with a great sense of humor. The game is riddled with snaps and references to popular culture. Also, despite the systematic use of humor, it is a serious and forceful title that will satisfy both adults and children thanks to its particular characters and the use of color and lighting.

After more than fifteen years, Raz’s return is everything fans could have hoped for. It tells a wonderful story about how we have to learn from our mistakes and continue to grow while keeping the humor we expect from any Double Fine production. Now and then, the control scheme can be a minor pain, but most of the time, it plays like a dream with a level of polish few games launch with anymore. Psychonauts 2 is one of the best games of 2021. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another sixteen years to team back up with the Psychonauts.
Psychonauts 2 is the best extension of a successful first part, the game has maintained its main ideas and was able to build on it and offer more ideas and additions both in terms of the distinctive story presented to us by Tim Schaefer or even the style of play and design of the distinctive and fun stages, made us in front of one of the best titles of 2021 and perhaps the best Xbox Series games to date.
Psychonauts 2 isn’t about gunning down the big boss at the end and cheering over their dead body. It’s about understanding that even the biggest asshole is still a person, and deep down they may just need some help. We all need some help sometimes. The key is asking for it. Today, in 2021, it’s easy to look around and see people who seem cruel and evil, and to assume they are lost souls, not worth saving. Psychonauts 2 says otherwise. It says that everyone can change. I’m not sure I fully believe that, but I’ll be damned if that’s not one hell of a hopeful message.
Psychonauts 2 is the full definition of a sequel to the original Psychonauts. So much so that it feels very conservative, even though there are palpable improvements in terms of content, shape, and polish. I haven't been able to get on Tim Schafer's new boat, but if you loved his previous works, Psychonatus 2 is hopelessly for you.

Psychonauts 2 is a pleasant surprise and one of the best games of the year so far. It's full of ideas, details, humor and it takes a long time to beat it. It took 16 years, but the Psychonauts are back and better than ever.

Psychonauts 2 is a wacky adventure with a lot of heart, which has only a few small weaknesses.

Classic in setting and structure, Psychonauts 2 proudly adheres to the canon of platform adventure of the early 2000s: that line of products that stood out for a certain craftsmanship in the construction of the levels and for a strong attention in the characterization of history and characters. Just like in the first chapter, the elements of originality do not come so much from the gameplay - which is still well studied and effective - as from the exuberance of the story, from the variety of situations, from the amount of unexpected and out-of-the-box sequences.

Psychonauts is back with a charming, challenging, thoroughly entertaining sequel that will please 3D platformer fans and especially anyone who loved the first game.
If you enjoyed the original, or just like the idea of a psychic-themed 3D platformer, I’m sure that you’ll like Psychonauts 2 and find plenty of laughs along the way.
Psychonauts 2 is a new lesson in empathy from Double Fine for both video games and yourself. If you're predisposed to it, the studio's work can set aside its classic 3D platformer look to connect with you without you realizing it on very personal levels. Or, at least, that's what's happened to me playing it. Psychonauts 2 has arrived as a breath of air right at a time in my life when I needed a breather.

A huge impact was left on me by Psychonauts. While that’s not likely to be the same story for Psychonauts 2, I wasn’t disappointed. There was no single place that let me down so severely that it soured the overall experience. Nothing that struck me as starkly inferior. It’s maybe not quite as genius, but it’s still a mind worth exploring.
