Trails of Cold Steel takes the foundation laid by the Trails in the Sky series and improves on it in many ways, and the Decisive Edition is the best way to experience it.
Although there is a certain shortage of new content, the PS4 version of The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel is the best of the bunch, and, since the game was very good to begin with, this one comes, unsurprisingly, as recommended.

Overall, this is one of those game series that I missed completely, but it is such a good game series and I am glad they are launching it on new gen consoles.
Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is a wonderfully crafted love letter to folks such as myself who pine for the golden age of old-school JRPGs. It starts out slow and its faithfulness to the classic formula might be a turn-off for gamers who desire something more contemporary. But its nicely fleshed-out — and generously voiced — narrative, attention to detail, and fun turn-based combat mechanics hits all the right spots for lovers of 1990s-style JRPGs. It's a worthy, modern iteration of the classic JRPG formula.
An ashamedly old school role-player that nevertheless does its best to attract new players and entertain existing fans.
This is a port for console parity, not a fun remake or remaster. But it’s still a modern JRPG classic, and one that is only the beginning of a long tale that goes some serious places.
In 2019, you really will be hard pressed to find another traditional Japanese roleplaying game that completely satisfies all checkboxes as well as The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. While certain portions of the game did feel like filler and every chapter is laid out in an almost identical fashion, this is easily overlooked thanks in part to the memorable narrative, amazing cast of characters, addictive battle system, and incredible soundtrack. Keep in mind that this is also part one in a series, so some of the filler may have more meaning in Cold Steel 2, Cold Steel 3, and Cold Steel 4.
This game is a lot to take in, but rest assured that Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is worth your time

The Legend of Heroes: Trials of Cold Steel has a fair amount going for it. With a fascinating and deep story, there is more than enough to keep players entertained, assuming you can sit through the slower parts.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel on PS4 is everything I wanted in a remaster of one of my favourite RPGs this decade and more.
If you're a fan of Japanese RPGs and you missed out on Trails of Cold Steel the first time around, we can't recommend this PS4 port enough. Between its brilliant world building and fantastic cast of characters, this is a slow-burning story that refuses to let you go. While the game does plod at points, it's hard not to sit back and appreciate just how much effort has gone into making this world feel so rich and interesting. Add a rock solid turn based combat system to the mix, and you've got all the makings of a genre classic.
It's honestly amazing that it took this long for Trails of Cold Steel to make its way to PS4, and if you missed the game in the past, you have no excuse now.
Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is a sprawling epic of a game. With satisfying combat, incredibly well defined characters, and enough story to satisfy the most demanding visual novel fan, Trails of Cold Steel has earned its place in the JRPG Hall of Fame. It's time to call it like it is: Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is a classic.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel plays like a greatest hits compilation of JRPG tropes and mechanics, and that is (largely) a really good thing.
If you’ve never played the game, it’s definitely worth the time and money especially since all the (mostly cosmetic) DLC comes with the package. If you've already played it, I'd be a little bit more hesitant.
