Amusing interactive programming tools for children and family-friendly games. Good, but not perfect choice for the first VR experience.

When playing through Breath of the Wild with the VR Goggles, with the Joy-Cons slotted firmly into the sides (as they would be in handheld mode), a head strap wouldn’t go amiss. Leaning back into my chair, propped up by a few pillows, was certainly the most comfortable way to play. And though the visuals stutter every now and then with weather transitions, Breath of the Wild performs nicely in VR. Besides, it’s pretty neat to feel fully immersed in the game – even if the visuals don’t quite take your breath away. I only wish we could use the wind pedal – or any of the other Toy-Con – as a way to glide through an updraft. Can we get a Toy-Con Sword next time, please? You just know there’s some grass itching to be cut.

It’s not without faults, but overall this ‘Nintendo-style solution’ to basic VR is well worth the asking price for anybody with even the tiniest bit of curiosity and brilliantly showcases the versatility of Switch.

Don't be fooled by its simplistic tech. Nintendo Labo VR is one of the most enjoyable and creative virtual reality experiences out there, and an absolute delight to play.

Altough I found some surprise when I played with Labo VR, it still didn't make VR more interesting, and VR still can't make Labo's mini games more playable. Just like the previous Labos, building those toys is the only time that I felt happy. But for the kids, I think it's enough.

It won't stack up to high-end VR headsets, but Nintendo's Labo VR Kit is a surprisingly solid and in-depth introduction to the world of VR.

Nintendo Labo VR is a well done and good processed craft fun, which delivers as a final product a surprisingly fine working Virtual Reality that combines the simplicity and accessibility of classic Nintendo products. The feeling of a real virtual reality is there, the fun is not too short and with Labo Labs there a many possiblities to build your own creations. Parents and young persons should take a look at this exciting Set.

Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit is ingeniously designed. The synthesis of physical cardboard Toy-Con with commensurate digital software creates a tactile and fun virtual reality experience that feels decidedly Nintendo. However, once the initial magic of Labo VR wears off, all that is left is a shallow, oddly assembled lot of minigames that won't last more than an afternoon.

With all Toy-Cons considered, Labo VR is a mixed bag of playability. Its replay value relies on competing with others, and there’s no rewards or special unlockables if you beat the high score. The focus on quantity over quality is a little unorthodox too, given how scarce the content for Labo has historically been. But, when all things are said and done, Labo VR is a good bit of fun for the kids, especially with its ability to be used in conjunction with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey on April 26th. And don’t worry, we’ll be writing a mini review of how they shape up in VR very soon. But for now, that’s all folks.

The Labo VR Kit looks to be a fantastic extension to Nintendo's cardboard range. This is no Vive or Rift rival, with children being the main focus here, but this is still one of the most inventive and playful takes on virtual reality so far – and importantly, the starter kit is priced very reasonably.

Although most of the games feel very basic, they still have that trademark Nintendo charm, and I still can’t get over how ingeniously these cardboard sets come together. If you’ve been into the past Labo sets, the VR Kit is a no-brainer.

At worst, you’ll spend a few hours having fun putting together some charming cardboard toys and seeing what parlor tricks your Nintendo Switch can do with them. At best, you’ll dive into one of the most inexpensive, yet engrossing, VR experiences out there.
