GOOD - Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing delivers an immersive airship combat experience coupled with relationship drama and alliance building with your arena opponents. The thematic premise of this being broadcast similar to a show of Survivor works to the game’s favor and creates added decision making apart from the core gameplay. Not enough randomness leads to some repetition after a few seasons, but the game is still very fun to play!

To its credit, Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing is a unique kind of game that plays well in virtual reality. While the concept has a bit of that current battle royal craze in its blood, it reminds me more of a cutthroat reality show. There are some missed opportunities in making it single-player only, and a lack of meaningful progression means that there is not a ton of reason to come back over and over again. That being said, I enjoyed the core gameplay and could appreciate the thoughtfulness of the strategy elements, even if in the end the overall package is just a bit shallower than I would have liked.

Overall, Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing is a fun game, albeit flawed. The combat has a lot of potential, but it’s hurt by poor pacing. The story is also the bare minimum at best. For only $19.99 though, it has enough content, and quality, to leave you satisfied.

It’s fun and unique, it’s most certainly has replay value but is also a little bit shallow without any kind of progression to speak of. Yet the reality TV show aspect is so incredibly charming and well done that I’d say it is worth the price of admission.

Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing is a great concept that could've used with a bit more time in the oven to knuckle down the controls a little better. The slow and cumbersome movements don't make for an excitingly adventure. However, the idea of playing a futuristic version of Survivor, by competing against opponents, forming alliances, and then double-crossing other captains to vote them out of the game, makes for an enthralling few hours. For those who are in need of a bit of time to kill with a different type of a video game, then Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing may be worth checking out.

Although Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing wasn't for me, this certainly doesn't mean it was a bad game. With a little more to offer with the characters, and some tweaking with the airships, this game could offer someone a unique battle arena experience.

Where this edition for the Nintendo Switch falls short, however, is on its lack of VR features that can be found on other versions of the same game, which make it feel like something is missing. If the most dedicated players will have plenty to look forward, those looking for a simpler experience might find the learning involved too cumbersome.

Bow to Blood is a solid game elevated by the procedurally generated levels and the morality system.

Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing is the kind of future sport I can get behind, with tons of style, plenty of bombastic airship action and an identity all of its own.
