Asking whether someone should buy Bloodborne or not should be countered with "do you think you can hack it?" Contrary to what some insufferable self-identifying 'hardcore' gamers may think, it doesn't require masses of experience and being willing to sit down for six-hour sessions.

Even with these small quibbles, I would recommend that anybody with a PS4 at least try Bloodborne. All of that difficulty and obtuseness gives a feeling of satisfaction and "I earned this" when the hurdles are finally jumped that no other AAA game comes close to. I've often thought that the Souls games are the true heirs to the Castlevania franchise; and if so, Bloodborne is it's Symphony of the Night.

Bloodborne is a game of boredom, precision and intelligence.

It's hard to pin down exactly where Bloodborne fits into the pantheon of the gaming world, and that's perfect. It truly stands on a pedestal of its own; From Software have moulded a masterclass of game design, and it's amazing to think of what dark and twisted place this all culminated from.

Although Bloodborne may have a deficiency when it comes to variety and plenty of indefensibly irritating segments, the overall sense of satisfaction in the deeply deranged world will surely and slowly sink its teeth into you until the wee hours of the morning.

It is still utterly fantastic to play. It is still one of the best action fighting mechanics in gaming. It still invokes that deadly and intense sense of failure matched with the heady highs of success that few other games (if not any entertainment) can match. It is still enriched with the uniquely mysterious touch of Miyazaki and From Software and that is all that it really needs to be.

Am I telling you to rush out and buy a new console just for this title? No, I'm not saying that. However, I will say it's definitely a worthy addition to any PlayStation 4 library.

The newest title from From Software is one you won't forget in a long time. A bloody good time in awaits you, Hunter.

I'm torn, because even with this [game crash] error Bloodborne is a candidate for Game of the Year. That's how good I think it is, absent end-game, memory leak and all.

A masterclass in design, and a lesson for other developers.

Bloodborne rewards deep play and deep thought. It's not for everyone, and it's definitely more accessible if you've played another Souls game first, but that doesn't mean newcomers can't pick it up.

Bloodborne is both perplexing and awe-inspiring, a challenging but rewarding title that will absorb or repel with equal strength.

From Software's title has blown away the competition this generation and is Sony's first true classic on the PS4. I'd urge non-Souls fans to try it too as I really wasn't expecting to enjoy Bloodborne this much.

Killing a boss is more rewarding than in other games out there, because you know how much practice went into that effort. I enjoyed Bloodborne as much as I have enjoyed the Dark Souls games. That means it kicks ass. Get it, play it, be punished by it and say you're a hardcore gamer. Nobody will argue with you.

I give Bloodborne a resounding Buy in my Buy/Hold/Sell rating scale. This is the first true system-seller for the PS4, the first game that convinces me that the PS4 is a system worth purchasing. It isn't for everyone, of course. If you don't like hard games you probably won't like this one. But even gamers who didn't like the Souls games have been pleased with Bloodborne, like our own Paul Tassi. So who knows?

From start to finish, Bloodborne revels in its unique – if somewhat masochistic – approach to entertainment. There are very few games that cause you to curse their developer one minute and sing their praises the next – but this is one of them. It is, quite simply, a sensationally designed and superbly refined offering.

A fantastic game that holds its own against Dark Souls. A brand new setting and new gameplay mechanics add a freshness to the Souls formula. There's a lot to explore and experience including savage death. Right now, it's the best RPG of the current gen.

Bloodborne is a game I was looking forward to since it was announced and only a few titles hyped to that extent deliver on their promises - From Software delivered. This Souls spin-off is near-perfect and it's exclusives like this that can be platform-defining. If there's anything I could complain about, it's the fact that I already want more Bloodborne and anxiously await DLC - I'll be the first in line for it. The game established a solid foundation for a series and any expansion or sequels are most welcome.
