Fade to Silence Reviews
Despite the potential that Fade to Silence has, there is no denying that this is a bad game. It suffers from poor game play, poor development, lack of polishing, a useless narrative, unbalanced difficulty, a lack of focus, outrageous levels of repetition, the problems with this game just go on and on. However, this doesn’t change one thing. I had a ton of fun with this game. The $49.99 price tag is really steep for the quality of the game you’re getting. But for a second, imagine that really god awful movie, that you love to death because of how fun that movie was to watch. That was Fade to Silence for me.
Something about the survival genre has taken all those brilliant ingredients and spat out a failure of a meal, however, and that's an depressing reflection on the entire genre.
A survival game that, despite a few interesting ideas, struggles to provide any reason to persevere with its overfamiliar gameplay and poorly handled storytelling.
All things said and done Fade to Silence is not a game that will inspire you to keep playing it. There are just too many issues with graphics, control and hit box contacts. It looks and feels clunky, and I am not sure it can be saved with a patch any time soon. Sadly I would suggest that eventually this game will do what its title suggests; Fade to Silence.
With a lack of tutorials, a rather limited library of craftable items, this is a hard title to recommend, even to the hardcore of survival fans, which is a shame to say, as I had a lot of hope for one such title, which slowly reveals its story through moments of rest in a camp. Sadly, I think Black Forest Games should head to the drawing board, plan something new, and use the shortcomings of Fade to Silence to make a truly memorable title we'll be talking about for years to come.
Fade To Silence is a good idea. It takes two popular and enjoyable genres to make its own style of game. Unfortunately for me, I think it should stick to one or the other. I think this will be one of those cult classic games where it has its followers but it’s not one I could recommend due to it being aimed for such a niche group. I give Fade To Silence a Thumb Culture Bronze Award.
Fade to Silence tries to mix a lot of ingredients together to make something original, but can't escape the comparison to the games it's inspired by.
Fade to Silence as some really unique ideas, they’re just layered behind a boring and tedious set of systems.
Fade to Silence contains many interesting elements, but they simply do not combine well. The mix of a meditative base builder with clunky combat and the stress of permanent death results in a gameplay experience that is certainly unique, but unfortunately not enjoyable.
Fade to Silence suffers from major flaws that prevent it from being truly enjoyable. Significant redesigns are needed to bring this game up to snuff.
Fade To Silence's cool weather system and interesting ideas can't make up for a derivative combat system, samey open world design, poor story, and several severe bugs. This is an adventure you won't want to survive.
With Fade to Silence, Black Forest Games was undoubtedly willing to offer a title with a unique atmosphere at the crossroads of influences dear to hardcore players, eager for ruthless survival mechanisms and mute narrative. Unfortunately, by trying do to too much, this RPG survival does not convince in any of its aspects, offering a repetitive experience, technically very limited and painful.

Fade to Silence is an unremarkable and slow slog for survival through a wintry post-apocalypse. Technical problems, underdeveloped gameplay systems, and a confused tone erode away most of the enjoyment in a setting that showed potential.
Fade to Silence is a broken mess where even the simplest of tasks is frustrating.

Fade to Silence's world atmosphere, survival mechanics, exploration and camp building are good and I thoroughly enjoyed them for the first few hours. The core gameplay loop though, is not enough to make a complete game and feels more like side content. With permadeath being a simple restart of the exact world with just a few perks Fade to Silence didn't grip me for more than couple runs.

Not so good survival game in frozen wasteland with poor story and weak gameplay.

Fade To Silence is a mess of ideas that don't come together well enough to be worth experiencing. There's plenty of potential here, but every idea is half-baked, undercooked, and buried by other systems.
Fade to Black is an interesting tale of survival, but is far too repetitive.
Attempts to build a new type of survival on the Dark Souls foundation has failed. Opponents are stupid, and mechanics are pretty dull.

Fade to Silence is an amalgamation of mechanics and systems that only work some of the time. Extensive survival procedures and dynamic weather patterns provide the potential for a memorable experience, but nothing takes advantage of that. Controls frustrate, crafting is lacklustre, and combat is missing any sort of depth. Keen survivalists will find something to like here, but those with only a passing interest should probably steer clear.
