Crippled by disappointing writing, Atelier Lulua also fails at delivering enough nostalgic content to veteran fans of the Atelier series.

Overall, Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland does great justice to the Arland trilogy, as well as the Atelier series as a whole, becoming a great game in itself.

Atelier Lulua is up there with the best that the series has to offer.

It's almost painfully delightful, warm, colourful, and completely charming in everything that it does, but its reliance on nostalgia and series tradition means that I'm just not sure that this will be one to win the series new fans.

Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland has plenty going for it. It’s got an interesting story that longtime fans will love, and its gameplay will keep JRPG fans satisfied well into the late hours of its run. Like so many other titles from the genre though, it’s held back by long-held conventions that work against it, and keep it from being something better than just another entry in the Atelier series.

Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland is a more accessible installment to the long running franchise. Lulua and her companions are a fun new cast, and the more streamlined crafting system makes Atelier Lulua a great starting point for new players.

Atelier Lulua ~The Scion of Arland~ is a delightful return to the Arland series. Even if it isn't terribly different from previous titles, the story is fun enough to keep players interested. Add in some delightful visuals, cute girls and wholesome fun, it's easy to see why the series has been around for so long. Plus, limiting the time mechanics might take away from one of the series core features, it allows players to take in the adventure, while still being aware of the time it takes them to complete this or that. So, if you want a cute RPG that has a nice message, you really can't go wrong with this one.

Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland doesn't even try to change the Atelier formula, only adding some new elements to the gameplay that benefit the overall experience but still fail to bring something really new to the table.

It's more of the same Atelier, but it also takes the best from its predecessors to synthesize a fun and customizable adventure.

Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland proves to be a great entry in Gust’s long-running series, and much like the many concoctions made by Lulua, this is a refined final product that reflects several of the best traits of the predecessors that came before.

Atelier Lulua is one of the better Atelier games in recent times and a worthy follow up to the Arland trilogy with its relaxing gameplay and superb soundtrack.

Atelier Lulua is a fun game to play in small spurts. It combines crafting/gathering with a decent JRPG combat system. While crafting and gathering can be tedious at times, the general concept is pretty fun. Discovering new ways to create better items is where the real fun lies.

After the hours spent with Lulua, her bestest gal pal Eva, and the other members of her menagerie, I must admit that I am hooked on Arland. Knowing that the Arland Atelier Trilogy Plus collection was released on the PS4 not too long ago, I foresee new additions to my digital backlog in my immediate future. But for right now, it's back to deciphering all of these remaining Alchemyriddle pages!

Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland maintains the magic that this long-running JRPG series is known for. From relaxing gameplay to adorable characters, Atelier Lulua doesn't disappoint. Newcomers to the series might have some larger story beats go over their head, while long-time fans might be miffed at the fact that so few returning characters are playable in battle. Still, when it comes to the Atelier series, Lulua manages to blend the best of the new with the best of the old with incredibly successful results.

Atelier Lulua is a crisp and clean experience with cute visuals and an even cuter cast of characters. While the gameplay is simple, it’s engaging enough to hold your attention and the best part is that you don’t need to have played the previous three games in order to understand this. With the added bonus of the simplified alchemy procedure, it’s an overall great title to pick up if you’ve been curious about the series.

Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland doesn't stray too far from the formula it created many, many installments ago, but that's not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to this series. This is a fun, light-hearted adventure that doesn't overstay its welcome.

I think that longtime fans will enjoy this one, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that this could also serve as a starting point for newcomers as well. Atelier games are remarkably consistent in quality. Even though Lulua may not blow the doors off in a number of ways, it’s a nice little game that knows how to show you a good time.
