Oninaki does impress with its cute visual presentation and very well done soundtrack. The core gameplay is a fun but repetitive combat system. The sory can keep you going through it, but its unbalanced pace can discourage many players. Oninaki, with its obvious flaws, is definitely not for everyone, but it surely can find its audience.

I hoped to get lost in Oninaki, but I instead found some half-hearted action combat and an emotionally raw and sometimes wacky tale.

Fight with crowds of enemies with slow progress through the levels over time gets boring. But the plot can hold you back. And although it is not a real revelation, it can offer several unexpected surprises.

Oninaki is a fun RPG with interesting combat mechanics that ultimately fails to reach greatness.

But i can't deny that the combat problems that you may bother you in the game. In fact If you want Very good gameplay and deep combats, you can't achieve in Oninaki.

Oninaki is my favorite Tokyo RPG Factory game to date, with its gorgeous art style and melodic music and its more appealing storyline. It may be far from perfect, but it is certainly worth a look if you fancy a slightly different take on a well-established genre.

While Oninaki had its fair share of ideas that could have potentially made it a gem, it is ultimately undone by weak storytelling that doesn’t do its heavy subject matter justice and combat that is enjoyable at times yet held back by design flaws that hinder the experience.

A decent dark story surrounded by mediocre gameplay and other problems. Square Enix, it's time to give Tokyo RPG Factory enough money, otherwise their games will always be average.

Death is never a comfortable topic. Oninaki, however, doesn't just address it but wholeheartedly runs with it. It doesn't always succeed but it does make you think about the meaning of mortality — perhaps a bit too much as people die left and right. The combat also could be a bit tighter and the story overstays its welcome a bit. Beautiful visuals compared with a haunting score, however, make the game a treat to behold. Here's hoping Tokyo RPG Factory further builds on this for their next new JRPG IP.

I’m very torn with Oninaki. For a studio selling itself as an RPG machine, they did a real poor job with the story aspects of the game. Then we have a super fun and engaging combat system, tempered by a questionably designed interface, but we still have a beautiful audiovisual experience.

The game's unique world can't save it from mediocrity. However, despite its shortcomings, Tokyo RPG Factory fans who liked Lost Sphear will probably find some enjoyment, at least to some extent.

Once you fall into the groove, Oninaki is greatly enjoyable, even if it initially falls flat because of its repetitive combat. The story heads to dark places surrounding the central theming, occasionally in a ham-fisted way, but still manages to have emotional impact. Ultimately though, Oninaki is a gem of a game if you're persistent in putting in the work. Tokyo RPG Factory have done it again

Oninaki could have been extraordinary. Artistic beauty, ingenious ideas, solid voice acting, and a story foundation open to endless potential, is utterly diminished by flat storytelling, zero character development, overall lack of narrative depth, gameplay design missteps, and lazy 3-D aesthetics. Perhaps a more generous reviewer would have scored Oninaki higher, but I cannot simply overlook the game’s compounding faults. It’s truly unfortunate, as there are glimmers of pure magic within and a little more would have made a remarkable impact. To experience all Oninaki has to offer and to find all of those moments of brilliance, be prepared to spend 30 hours or more to do so. It will take patience, as grind and fatigue will undoubtedly appear. Nonetheless, I personally found the experience worthwhile. Yet, if a more robust effort were made, Oninaki could have been a masterpiece; refined gameplay that matches its creativeness and a story that should have conveyed perceptions, ideas, and questions that challenge how one perceives life itself. So much potential untapped, I wanted to love this game so much more.

Oninaki is not the best Tokyo RPG could do, but it's not a step down either. Many new and exciting ideas are there, but it seems that the developers couldn't execute all of them as they should. Oninaki is a decent title, but could have been even better if the developers managed to reach their full potential.

While the combat initially feels flawed it ends up growing with the player, and the variety of customization options stands out in the best way. All in all, ONINAKI is an interesting effort with a good lifespan that deserves a close look.

Oninaki is disappointing. Mostly because the right elements were in place to make it great and it's so thoroughly mediocre. Tokyo RPG Factory have yet to release a truly essential game. As it stands they've released three games with interesting ideas and spotty execution. Perhaps one day they will get it right and release a defining RPG. However, today is not that day, and Oninaki is not that game.

Despite the good story and being full of great concepts and ideas that could have worked out better with more development time, Oninaki ends up being a decent Action RPG that fails in actually capturing the spirit of old JRPGs or delivering a truly compelling experience.

Oninaki gives us, as a watcher we can travel between the world of mortals and souls. Although the story of the game is nice and cool but unfortunately the fighting mechanics are not very useful.

Oninaki is an interesting twist on the concept of death, but has a lot of flaws to go with it. The music is great and the variety in gameplay works really well. The gameplay itself isn't great though.
