Streets of Rogue is a fantastic title with loads of replay value, and crucially it lets players decide how they want to play without penalising them, which might make it a good rogue-lite entry point for the uninitiated. It may perform slightly better on other platforms but it is perfectly suited to the on-the-go experience the Switch provides. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with a chloroform rag-wielding doctor (I’m referring to the game, no need to send help).

If you enjoy the rogue-lite genre, then Streets of Rogue will make you happy, but if you don't like things such as permadeath and stealth, you will find more fun in another title.

Characters can be possessed, frozen/shattered, and even bribed. If you're not able to accomplish something on your own, you can always just hire or trick someone. This underlying complexity is a double-edged sword, however, and it's not uncommon to lose an hour-long playthrough to someone who turned against you for reasons that aren't immediately obvious, at which point your run's progress is deleted.

Streets of Rogue has the heart and complexity rivaling any major release, even without a story to back it up. If you've got the hard drive space, there's no reason not to pick it up immediately.

Streets of Rogue combines the experimental elements of Deus Ex with random world generation and permadeath to create a winning top-down rogue-lite.

There is a lot of fun to be had in the game and you could easily suck 100+ hours out of it if you really wanted to explore and unlock everything, in all likelihood most people won’t stay with it for that long but regardless what time you do spend with it will likely be enjoyable.

Streets of Rogue is an enjoyable rogue-lite offering a new experience every time you play. Will you hack the electrics to turn off security cameras or knock on the door and go in guns blazing, there’s a play style suited to everyone. It has lots of nonsense too from taking a pill to make you a giant right through to grabbing a toilet and throwing it all over someone to poison them.

We are facing a jewel of the indie scene that will allow the player to create chaos and destruction throughout the levels that he completes, or to go completely unnoticed without anyone noticing his presence. 24 different characters, each with its own characteristics, in a roguelite that will delight lovers of the genre.

How many games allow you to assassinate people as a Ninja, throw toilets at people as a Wrestler, and chloroform people as a Doctor in the same game? Just one, and it does so in complete expert fashion. At full price, the game is just $20, which is an absolute steal.

Streets of Rogue is a tiny, massive roguelite game. It features random levels, random tasks, random loot, but you can influence the world with selected skills and characters. It's a good game and even though simple, mastering it will take long hours.

What if Retro City Rumble and Shakedown: Hawaii were merged with Rogue? The answer is one of the more unique roguelikes on Switch, and boy, is it fun.

This is a title I've had my eye on since it initially hit early access on PC where I struggled to find the fun and had put it down in the hopes that on final release it would all come together...

Gameplay-wise, Streets of Rogue is one of the most open-ended games that I've ever played and mastering it super-rewarding.

Streets of Rogue is an odd yet hugely entertaining outing, one that rewards the time you put into it and never says no to even your most ridiculous ideas. It’s far more than the sum of its inspirations and even if you find permadeath an obstacle, there’s so much to love about this deceptively complex gem.

Thanks to its long early access period, Streets of Rogue achieves what a good Rogue-lite should; An addictive experience that takes hold of you while presenting itself with new and varied content on each turn of play. If you love this genre, this is a must have. For others? If you enjoy freedom of choices and approaches and pixelated graphics, Streets of Rogue can be both enjoyable and an introduction to the world of Rogue-lites

Streets of Rogue isn't the cheapest of rogue-lites available on the eShop, but years of developmental evolution in Early Access have resulted in the final product making it to Nintendo Switch, and while we do feel the asking price is a tad high, the amount of content you get far surpasses what you're probably expecting. RPGs are at their best when they give you a world where you can be anyone and do anything - Skyrim has built its legacy on that very concept - so if you want to be a werewolf, or a scientist, or a bartender, then this is the game for you.
