Seed of Evil doesn't rock the boat, but Mutant Year Zero's unique tactical style is worth returning to.

More than just XCOM with talking animals, this inventive strategy game has plenty of new ideas of its own – even if Seed Of Evil does little for the existing replayability issues.

With a few technical issues, a disconnected story, a very short new campaign, and an unbelievably nonsensical final boss encounter, Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil is a disappointing expansion to a once-promising game.

Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil is a good expansion, introducing a new compelling mystery, a powerful new character and some brand new locations. Sadly, it includes very little gameplay changes, and the new weapons, upgrades and ability ranks do not force players to change their tactical approach over the original game. Still, the additional content is definitely enjoyable, making Seed of Evil an essential purchase to all those who love Mutant Year Zero. The links above are affiliate links. With new elements to the game's universe, Seed of Evil brings a good expansion to Mutant Year Zero's story, and should satisfy the fans of the base game, even if mechanically it doesn't bring anything really new.

Seed of Evil provides answers to questions that didn’t need them, doubles down on a shallow tactical layer instead of offering Year Zero’s fine-tuned mix between stealth, strategy and story. It often feels tacked on and mostly unnecessary.

With some games, when a DLC drops it can sometimes feel like a half-arsed attempt to cash in on something that is already successful however Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil is refreshing as it introduces new plant-type enemies as well as a new character, new areas to explore and a continuation of an epic story. If you really want to challenge yourself and reckon you are strategic mastermind then I highly recommend departing with your hard-earned money as you will not be disappointed. I award Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil the Thumb Culture Platinum Trophy.

Due to these bugs, I’m really conflicted with what to feel for this game. I really want the developers to succeed and gain a lot of funding, but these bugs just take me out of it instead of making me feel fully invested. I’m still hopeful that they’ll iron things out and make it fully enjoyable. I’m also hoping they can implement the random respawning feature so I can grind a lot, but as an option for players to choose.
