GreedFall, the new Action-RPG from French studio Spiders, is overly ambitious for its own good, getting bogged down with bugs and poorly implemented ideas.

GreedFall is a good game that despite its technical flaws can be a great way for lovers of the genre to pass their time, while they wait for the next truly epic RPG.

Despite a variety of small issues, GreedFall impresses with its engaging narrative, stellar world design, and deep customization.

It is a fine example of what smaller developers like Spiders can offer to complement the other experiences out there. Even with its faults, RPGamers should welcome GreedFall into their personal collections.

Greedfall has an ambitious desire to evolve it's genre without the polish to make it stand out; all while neglecting its core gameplay to the point it can't even be seen as competent or fun. I'm sure Greedfall will become a cult hit eventually but for now, it's the gaming worlds equivalent of an early morning T.V. infomercial; trying to sell you an "amazing" product that we all could have lived without despite its inherent usefulness for a problem we didn't know we even had. A real shame too because It really has promise.

Greedfall is a game I want to love. On the surface, this semi-open world, action RPG feels like a patchwork of different ideas and concepts, all of which executed acceptably but never quite brilliantly. With elements of The Witcher, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls and The Council, this politically-charged title gets a lot right but it does so in a manner that's not quite as effective as it should be. With a development team of 35 or so people, Greedfall is an impressive AA title but some constant issues with the combat and environment hold this game back from greatness.

In 2014, I said that despite its issues, I enjoyed Bound by Flame and would like to see a sequel. While not a sequel, Greedfall is a successor to Bound by Flame and every other Spiders game and it’s absolutely their best work yet.

Greedfall could be the game that 2019 forgets, but cult status could quite easily be on the cards.

Greedfall is a frustrating experience: there are some firm foundations to build from and it has all the makings of the next great action-RPG series. But the game lacks depth to really take it to lofty heights where it could knock the very best off their perch.

The Spiders studio, with the creation of Greedfall, took a big step towards improving the quality of its work. A mysterious world with a deep narrative of the Renaissance and the colonists can drown any player for hours. Personally, with the experience of this game, I was looking forward to seeing the future work of Spiders Studios. If you're a fan of action-role-playing, don't miss it.

Greedfall is a missed opportunity. At first glance it seems like a really worked out game, with many options, worked out scenarios and much more. But little by little that mask is falling, and you start to see the seams of the game. However, and despite its failures in combat and camera, it is still enjoyable, and those who seek a role will get something out of it.

Greedfall is a game that prefers to give you a rich, deep and complex world, with an appealing story rather than a technical boast, aspect that is not bad at all either. To all this we must add that it is a game that has cost five million euros, that although it is much more than the previous titles of the study, it is very far from the budgets of other companies. What Spiders has done is create a title for that sector of players that we miss the old Bioware games, the Fable saga or we love the Pillars of Eternity, Divinity, etc. And in my opinion they do really well.

GreedFall is Spiders' most ambitious RPG title to date, and it certainly shows. It features a great story and deep lore, with interesting characters and setting. However, it's brought down by its lower production values and janky combat, as well as the occasional technical issue that arose from time to time.

An action RPG full of interesting ideas, although developed without the massive means of larger software houses.

Yes, a guilty pleasure-style conscience supports this notion of recommendation, but Greedfall’s excellence is encompassed by its catalogue of countless offerings that are to be discovered through a litany of options, and paths that are carved out in each player’s experience.

Greedfall presents a compelling tale of political intrigue and hard choices and, coupled with its addictive combat and entertaining dialogue, it definitely makes a strong case for your time. It is a bit less refined than some of its contemporaries, however, and some will find it hard to ignore the reused textures and less than stellar graphics. That said, for those who look a bit beneath the surface, they'll find a unique world and a roster of rich characters that surprise you at every turn, and, if that sounds like a win, you should definitely give Greedfall a try.

There's a lot to like in GreedFall. It ticks many of the most important boxes an RPG should. It makes you care about the characters and the world, all while giving you a sense that you can actually impact those things.

GreedFall certainly left me wanting more; while its story may be a bit shallow in places, it’s still got a lot of depth, a fluid, intuitive combat system and enough morally-grey missions to bring me back to Teer Fradee some time soon. Forget waiting for the next Dragon Age, GreedFall is an impressive debut for what could well become a classic series.
