Critic Reviews for Ion Fury
Ion Fury is an authentic throwback to Duke Nukem 3D that certainly hails to the king but can't quite dethrone him.
A thrillingly authentic take on the first-person shooter's 90s heyday, delivered with nerdish enthusiasm.
For better and worse, a near perfect replication of mid-90s first person shooters, that makes you wistful for the old days… and secretly glad things have moved on in the meantime.
More than just a throwback to frenzied '90s shooters, Ion Fury is a fantastic game filled with creative weaponry, oodles of humor, and memorable levels.
The Switch version of Ion Fury is worth a buy if that’s the only platform you own on which it’s available. The only advantage this edition has over others is that the Switch is portable. The lower framerate really works against this version of the game, and I feel like players will get more enjoyment by playing it on a platform with the horsepower to provide a steady 60fps.
If you're a fan of any breed of first-person shooters, Ion Fury should be on your playlist. Even among its retro FPS peers, 3D Realms has put out a best-in-class experience that rivals anything released this year.
Ion Fury not only recaptures what made retro shooters so memorable, but it improves on them in a number of ways. While not as excellent as some other recent entries in the same genre, this is a game that fans of the past should not miss. It's brutal, lightning-fast, and always putting fun before anything else.
