As we said, Need for Speed Heat is the best entry in the franchise for quite some time, but it's still not quite where it needs to be. The day vs. night gameplay is a compelling loop, and it's a big step in the right direction for the series in general. It's a solid effort with fun handling and lots of customisation options. It's a shame the open world lacks personality, and the police are perhaps a little too hardball, but there's still plenty to like. At the tail end of this generation, Need for Speed is back to being good — let's hope it can be great in future.

Need for Speed: Heat is a charming dashing game that generally nails the things that made past sections so effective, predominantly strong hustling mechanics, magnificent vehicle customization choices, and insane cop pursues.

When someone asks me how I would describe Heat, I say Prostreet during the day and Carbon during the night. During the day are the official showcase events and then during the night are the illegal street races that get the attention of the cops. However, I'm jumping forward so let's start from the beginning.

Need for Speed Heat feels like a hotrod just a few parts shy of reaching its former glory.

Ultimately, Need for Speed: Heat is a decent racer. In fact, I would say it is a great playing one. It’s just missing something new.

Sometimes the story gets weak, sometimes it makes you Grind the Game, and AI is unbalanced, but overall, Need For Speed Heat is the best version of the series in the last 5 years.

Need for Speed: Heat redeems the series with engaging gameplay, insane amounts of customization and remembers its past fondly. From start to finish, racing in Palm City's night lights and sunny atmosphere reminds players why they were elated fans of a once great franchise.

NFS Heat is an improvement over NFS Payback but that isn't saying much. Microtransactions are long gone thankfully but not much else has changed. If EA are hoping to return the series back to its heyday it'll need to do much more than this to topple the likes of Forza Horizon 4.

Ghost Games has delivered a great new addition to the Need for Speed franchise, with Heat certainly bringing the 'heat' with its relentless cop pursuits that play out against a beautifully-looking Palm City.

Need for Speed Heat is certainly the best NFS in 8th generation but far from Best in the series. An exciting, stunning, entertaining and maybe addictive racing game that you can play and enjoy for hours.

Overall Need for Speed Heat was a fully enjoyable game with many features that help keep the game from getting stale or boring. With the ability to use Studio App to design cars on your mobile and import into the game, customizing your in-game character you can make adjustments for hours. I would highly recommend NFSH to anyone that loves a good street racer game that just wants to get a nice ride and have fun.

NFS heat can be the best NFS of this generation, but in comparison to other racing games like Forza Horizon, NFS heat can't do much and every part of the game feels outdated, especially for the AI. NFS heat still can be enjoyable at night, but the morning part is boring and unnecessary.

The day/night dynamic is entertaining and mixes things up. The car list is better than expected. Customization is clean and maximizes personalization. And the driving mechanics aren't overly complicated but present enough of a challenge.

Saying this is the best Need for Speed games in years may not mean much when some of its recent predecessors were just decent, but Need for Speed Heat is a return to its roots for better or worse, and is still fun to play even if there are better racers out there.
