Better still, it's impossible not to be captivated by the Bergson family's struggle for survival and togetherness against a formidable evil. A two-player co-op option is the cherry on top of this exquisitely-crafted experience. However you choose to go through it, Children of Morta is an absolute must-play.

Even at its lowest, Children of Morta encapsulates the struggles, challenges and joys of family. It beautifully reminds us about acceptance, loss, and to support the ones you love.

Anyone looking for the biggest roguelike of 2019 should probably look no further than Children of Morta. This is an excellent release that just works on so many different levels, with very few minor annoyances in the end. There’s practically something for everyone to enjoy with the many different gameplay styles and ways you can tackle a problem in the dungeons. I didn’t want the game to end when it did, and I’m truly holding out hope that Dead Mage will expand upon the story with some DLC releases in the future, as I feel like my time with the Bergson family just hasn’t fully concluded yet.

There’s no shortage of top down, pixel art, fantasy roguelike’s out there vying for your attention and many of them are enjoyable. It’s a genre I’ve spent far too much time with over the past few years so the thought of playing another was daunting when I first got my hands on Children of Morta. The thought of re-treading the same ground for hours, something of a staple for this genre, had put me off. I couldn’t have been more wrong about this game though. It’s visuals, narrative originality, the vast array of content and the sheer amount of polish that’s on display here has shown me that Dead Mage and 11 Bit Studios have created the roguelike to end all roguelikes, combining the best of the genre in a package which feels familiar yet refreshingly fast moving.

Children of Morta is a very entertaining roguelite, with a very interesting history and an enviable number of events. I assure you that if you like the genre, this title will not disappoint you. If you also like cooperative games, you're in luck. The Bergson family is waiting for you, and Mount Morta will not be explored alone.

Children of Morta greatly mixes action RPG and roguelite styles, creating a fresh experience every time you play. The narrative development and the stories that make up the Bergson family are capable of holding the player more than the gameplay itself. While minor technical issues are frequent with the console version, nothing detracts from the great experience the title provides.

Children of Morta is an indie game that provides AAA levels of entertainment and polish. With so many genres and influences all mixed up into one big pot, the concept easily could've turned out a disaster in the wrong developer's hands. Instead, Dead Mage studios produced what is arguably a must-play title and an absolute gem of a game. Highly recommended for veteran and novice gamers alike.

Children of Morta is a well-made, standard and delightful Rogue-lite Action Game. The main theme of the game is about family and unlike other rogue-lite games that usually don't pay much attention to the story, this game offers a very good story about a lovely and mystic family. It is absolutely a game that rouge-lite (and rouge-like) fans will enjoy. However, even if you didn't play any game in this genre, I think Children of Morta worth a shot and I can easily recommend it.

Children of Morta is has multiple beautiful pieces that fit together. The Diablo-esque style gameplay is satisfying. The emphasis on family and bonds is told & shown throughout the game in a wholesome way. The pixel graphics and animation are very high quality and is simply gorgeous. There's oomph and impact you can feel. The procedurally-generated dungeon runs and grind might not be for everyone, but Dead Mage Studio shows exactly how it can be done properly.

Behind Children of Morta's pixel art, lies an excellent hack'n'slash which has little to envy to the pillars of the genre. The RPG aspect is well defined, and the growth of the characters is never trivial.

Children of Morta is a handsomely crafted dungeon crawling effort with a stirring narrative that freshens things up on account of its familial theme and structure. The gorgeous presentation and resolutely solid hack and slash beats are supported by some surprising mechanics and flourishes that help to ensure that Children of Morta is one of the most pleasant surprises of the year.

The family that slays together, stays together. When it comes to striking a balance between raucous gameplay and dramatic discourse, Children of Morta is an absolute gem.

Since it’s polished in almost every regard with its gameplay and presentation, it’s possible Children of Morta would’ve benefited from a more focused design direction rather than a rogue-lite dungeon-crawling experience.

Children of Morta is charming, engaging and fun. It's absolutely worth playing if you're a fan of the genre, and the Bergsons are one of the best family units in gaming. The world and characters draw you in, and the simple but engaging roguelike gameplay keeps you there. It doesn't break any molds, but it doesn't try to. Instead, the title focuses on offering what it has with a mirror polish. It has some problems and can feel repetitive at times, but any sense of weariness is lost the next time a beautiful cut scene begins.
