Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Reviews
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is nothing more or less than a must buy. The graphical updates aren't perfect, but the story, setting, and soundtrack remain as enchanting as ever. More importantly, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered's watertight combat mechanics and progression system still feel as revolutionary now as they did back in 1999; pushing the limits of the traditional JRPG to produce something that manages to feel wholly unique within an ever crowded genre.
Final Fantasy VIII is a masterpiece, and I’m glad that it’s now properly accessible on newer consoles. Hopefully a new generation of players can now discover it.
Square Enix has struggled in the past with its previous ports of the Final Fantasy franchise, but may finally be hitting its stride. All of the improvements and enhancements give Final Fantasy VIII a much more modern feel without sacrificing any of its soul. As a lifelong fan of the Final Fantasy franchise and VIII in particular, I couldn't be happier with this remaster and look forward to hours of enjoyment wherever I go.
There are some technical issues that prevent Final Fantasy VIII Remastered from being as significant a remaster as many others on the market today, but less is sometimes more — the changes Access Games, DotEmu and Square Enix were able to make enrich the entire game, making it a fantastic and very worthwhile experience for any player.
The black sheep of the Final Fantasy franchise has finally arrived on Switch! Even with a fresh coat of paint, and some nifty features, is it worth a visit in 2019?
