If you’re a fan of survival games, no matter if hardcore or casual, then Green Hell will surely provide you with a gaming experience like no other. Despite a few minor complaints, Green Hell is tense, gorgeous, immersive, and even terrifying at times. This game ticks all the right boxes for me, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of survival games. I absolutely loved playing through the story mode and unravelling its mystery, and I can’t wait for the Spirits of Amazonia expansion to be fully released, so that I can dive into that.

Green Hell is a fantastic survival experience with an exemplary sense of place and peril. Creepy Jar have really nailed the feeling of loneliness and despair that true isolation would lead to and married this to some well balanced challenges and a refreshingly user friendly approach. The range of ways to play are really welcome and should ensure that even those players who may be turned off by the rigours of hunger and thirst mechanics can enjoy the immersive jungle experience. This may not be a welcoming jungle, but there's plenty of fun and games to be had.

Green Hell is one of the more difficult survival games I’ve played, but I enjoyed the learning experience with each death and the story mode is fantastic. It did get frustrating being so realistic with the sheer number of ways you can injure yourself or get violently ill. It was a bit like playing through Groundhog Day whilst learning the gameplay loop and learning crafting recipes, but it’s worth persisting and building regular save points to allow you to explore more and open up more of the story.

The Spirits of Amazonia update grants a lot of new and interesting features for Green Hell, and adds in an engaging storyline as well that is exciting for newcomers and veterans of the game alike.

To play any game that is both daunting and frustrating, yet encouraging and achieving is mind-boggling to me. I didn’t think I’d enjoy Green Hell, and to tell you the truth, I hate and love it. Hours and hours of gameplay in and I feel a rollercoaster of emotions. Allow me to explain.

I don’t hate Green Hell, but I do lament what it could have been. I went into the game with an open mind and a willingness to try things out. Sadly, the lack of coherent direction and awkward controls made the game overly difficult. While I’m not adverse to challenge, it is a nitpick of mine to get lost due to sloppy design. I honestly hope Creepy Jar takes my notes constructively and uses them to make their next game a masterpiece. Sadly, this particular entry is quite hard to recommend.

Green Hell is a brutally tough, deep and satisfying open-world survival sim. It suffers from the same inherent repetition and often infuriating difficulty as most other examples of its genre, but these are problems offset here by satisfying crafting and construction systems, clever smartwatch and body inspection elements and a story mode that easily trumps the vast majority of offerings we've come across in a survival sim. If you can make peace with the Switch's graphical downgrade, missing multiplayer aspect and some minor control issues, what's here is sure to satiate any cravings you may have for some seriously tough survival sim shenanigans.

Green Hell is a very well packaged product. It offers new ideas for the survival genre, reinventing mechanics already seen and introducing new ones: the nutritional classification of food or the diagnosis. Despite the indie mold it shows the muscles from a technical point of view.

Though full of frustrating elements, like snakes and leeches, Green Hell has some incredibly memorable elements that tie well together with the lush forest and oppressive weather effects. Though the UI aspect of crafting is a bit off-putting, the organizational aspects are interesting, engaging, and immersive and lend well to the overall experience that Green Hell provides you with. While veteran survival players may only spend a dozen or so hours in the game, Green Hell’s approachability, storytelling, and immersively gorgeous graphical fidelity make it one of the most accessible and forgiving survival titles of today.

Green Hell is one of the most suitable survival experiences for the most experienced players of the genre. This title focuses its mechanics on realism, making it as immersive as possible. Without having invented anything new, the truth is that the varied history mode gives that unique touch in the genre. Despite some of its technical problems, this title is a remarkable game to add to our collection.

Bottom line, Green Hell still comes across as a refreshing survival game. The difficulty level of the game will have many players screaming "bloody green hell". Initially, patience is key and learning as you go. If you do decide to stick with it you'll be treated to a rewarding experience.

Unique survival game with some amusing elements, just with too small Amazonian rainforest and low replayability.

If games like The Forest were up your alley, I do recommend giving Green Hell a shot. However, if you’re easily frustrated by obscure deaths vs trial and error, I’d recommend starting out at the easier difficulty so you can enjoy what it has to offer without needing to wrestle in frustration.

The beautiful jungle of Green Hell tries to be very realistic, which results in it being a bit too deadly. Recommended only for the hardcore fans of the genre due to the extreme difficulty.

Green Hell is a wild and spectacular indie survival because there is so much to do and a lot to risk at every step. It has intriguing mechanics, solid gameplay and extreme realism that blend well with the deadly Amazonian context, forcing the player to engage himself to not dying every 15 minutes. Some minor bugs and technical issues cannot ruin one of the most exciting experiences on the survival scene.
