Blasphemous is brilliant. Between its slick combat mechanics, its finely crafted world, and the showdowns with its ferocious monstrosities of bosses, there really is a lot to love here. There’s a level of finesse to just about everything you do in the game, and it’s that need for precision and strategy that helps Blasphemous stand above similar titles in the genre. It does have its imperfections and I have no doubts that it won’t be for everyone, but those who enjoy themselves a challenging metroidvania-style 2D adventure that wears its inspirations like a badge of honour will NOT want to miss out on Blasphemous.

Even though its bursting with a strong identity, Blasphemous struggles to find its own footing in a crowded genre. There are glimpses of what could’ve been an amazing game, but much of it its bogged down due to its over reliance on a dull skill system.

Most of my criticisms stem from whether or not The Game Kitchen focused on so much heavy lore that it affected the game from feeling more tangible or exploring more innovative gameplay mechanics. But if everything I said is not an issue, then you will have fun with this title.

It's hard, it's gory and has some of the best classic gameplay mechanics in it's genre. It's so well crafted, it's difficult to stay indiferent to it.

Smart, brutal and occasionally unfair, Blasphemous is a relatively conservative take on Metroidvania that is still very much worth playing.

If you love the Metroidvania, the challenging platforms, the detailed Pixel Art and the highly gloomy, heavy and terrifying atmospheres, this game should be a must in your library.

A welcome addition to an increasingly overcrowded subset of Soulslike games, Blasphemous really captures that formula and does the best job it possibly can while presenting a gorgeous pixel art style that will leave you in awe. The lack of fast travel rooms and the unnecessary precision-based platforming leave a bit of a sour after taste in an otherwise satisfying main course meal. If you’re itching for that difficult experience with some incredible boss encounters and over-the-top gore, Blasphemous is sure to be just what you ordered on the menu this year!

Blasphemous is a merciless Metroidvania with a satisfying combat, despite the weak platforming, its boss fights are extremely entertaining and the art style is amazing, as it establishes a very engaging setting.

Blasphemous is postulated as one of the indies of the year, a great metroidvania, demanding and with a wonderful artistic design and a fascinating lore based on the culture and art of southern Spanish.

Overall, I’d say Blasphemous is a must-play if you’re a fan of Souls-like adventuring, classic Metroidvania or if you just want to set off on a dark pilgrimage to unholy lands. There may be a few issues that hinder the experience here and there (some of which are supposedly being patched as we speak), but this is still one of my favorite gaming experiences of 2019, and I think horror fans will especially appreciate the work that went into crafting this terrifying world.

Blasphemous' main and major positive aspect is its dense and unusual atmosphere. The game design was played just a bit too safe, though.

Blasphemous is an excellent metroidvania, that doesn't evolve the genre, but combines the spirit of Prince of Persia, Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night in one magnificent-looking package.

Blasphemous finds success by adhering to staples of the genre and executing them well. Coupled with its strong art style and design, it’s a great option for anyone seeking another Metroidvania fix. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it proudly shows off its visual personality.

Blasphemous is a great addition to the genre and it truly feels like a unique creation able to stand fine on its own without taking too much from other games out there. The world and lore are fantastic and enough to keep anyone with a passing interest engrossed to the very end.

Action and 2D platforms with a deep and demanding combat system, and game features influenced by the great Dark Souls. All this wrapped in a magnificent pixel art and a perfect setting of a decadent and brutal world, with religion and all its imagery about guilt, sin, punishment, etc. as a central theme We will gladly handle the Penitent through the inhospitable land of Cvstodia, killing any enemy that crosses our path. Great.

Blasphemous is not just a video game; it is a digital anthropological artifact, elevating it to the best "Christian" game that I have ever played.

Blasphemous is a game that every lover of metroidvanias has to have. At the moment, it is not available in physical format, so it is almost a must-buy for title lovers, even more knowing that the money stays at home, since it is developed by a team of people from Seville. Entertaining, beautiful, addictive are qualifiers that perfectly define this title. Of course it can be improved, but you will not be disappointed if you play it.

Blasphemous is beautiful. Soaked in blood and covered in grime, it is clear that so much effort and vision was put into this game.

The graphics move at a steady clip, taking on a "less is more attitude" and managing to convey a sense of foreboding and horror even without the most detailed, three-dimensional monsters to be found. The experience of Blasphemous is a delight and fans looking for a video game that will manage to present a fair challenge can pick this one up, knowing that they'll be playing one of the most disturbing, immersive experiences in video games this year. From the bloody graphics to haunting music, Blasphemous finds its way into your nightmares and is a game begging to be replayed, thanks to its fantastic gameplay.
