Dragon Quest XI S is the ultimate content package of a new JRPG classic, and a phenomenal port for the Nintendo Switch.
Regardless of the hardware, Dragon Quest XI continues to be the absolute masterpiece that last year won a place among the best JRPGs of the current generation. Dragon Quest XI is the debut of the saga on Xbox, and does so in the best possible way. One of the best JRPGs of the last years arrives to Microsoft consoles with a Definitive Edition that suffers from some graphic problems but is still essential.

The huge amount of features makes this game one of the most content-packed, varied, enjoyable RPGs ever... Although some technical issues are not as polished as we'd have desired.

If you’re looking for a JRPG to get stuck into and haven’t yet jumped into Dragon Quest XI, there’s no better time. The additions made to the Nintendo Switch version, along with the ability to take this lengthy game on the go truly do make it the definitive way to experience the game.
Dragon Quest XI S should be remembered as one of the best JRPGs of the generation — not because it pushes the genre forward, but because it reminds us why we fell in love with role-playing games in the first place.
Even if the original version was already one of the best PS4 titles, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition brings enough improvements to become, in fact, the definitive version of the title. This is a mandatory JRPG for fans of the genre and just shows that, regardless of the version, it is a true masterpiece.

Dragon Quest XI S is one of the finest RPGs on Switch.
Being a port of the Switch version, the graphic compromises have remained almost unchanged, but this time the title compensates for its artistic shortcomings with a double frame rate, almost zero loading times and a resolution finally in 4k, which consequently guarantees top-notch performance. If we add to these the presence of the superb Japanese dubbing and all the improvements devised last year for the "S" edition, this third version of Dragon Quest XI may not fully embody the concept of "Definitive Edition", but overall it has turned out to be an excellent alternative to the original, especially in case the consumer wants to use it in 4k. At least for Xbox users and Game Pass subscribers there is no valid reason why they should not finally dive into the world of Erdrea and accompany the Shiner on one of the most epic adventures conceived over the last decade.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is one of the best RPGs available on the sSwitch and is by far the most content rich version currently available. While the Switch version may not look quite as great as its big console brothers, the wealth of content on offer will have you busy for well over one hundred hours. From its stunning character and enemy design, to its pitch-perfect turn-based combat, DQ XI S is a grand slam on every level and an essential addition to any RPG fans Switch library.
Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition is a monumental game. It highlights everything the original already got right and adds so many unique features that enhance an already phenomenal experience. It's a stand-out success for JRPG's and RPG's in general, both a modern epic and classic in every sense of the word.
Dragon Quest XI S is as perfect a port as you could ask for, and makes you feel good about owning a Switch in the first place.
Even if it is mostly the same game we had on the PS4 and PC, it still shines and the abundant new content mantains it fresh. And even if its visuals do not reach what we saw on the other versions (which is logical), it gets close and it is an adaptation with great merit for the Switch.

Dragon Quest XI S easily earns its title as the definitive edition of an amazing traditional JRPG.
I typically favor games that introduce something new to the gaming landscape, because I think trudging through old waters — even incredibly — doesn’t really push us forward as a culture or in terms of design. Dragon Quest XI is just too good, though. In fact, it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. I laughed, I cried, and I’ve felt a part of this cast. I’m actually on hour 140 with no signs of stopping, and I couldn’t be happier. Without question, this is one of the best-designed games I’ve played to date, and I’ve had the beautiful opportunity to share it with my daughter who has adorably pointed at the screen, screaming, “It’s a monster octopus!”
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of Elusive Age is without question the definitive experience. The new content gives returning players something to do, with an overwhelming amount of things to do that just makes sense on a portable platform. Similar to the original release, this is a must-have for any JRPG fan and easily one of the best games currently available on the Nintendo Switch.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is actually what it says it is, definitive. It isn’t some DLC stapled to an original release, but a more optimized, fluid, and fully realized experience that players new or old will be able to get something from, and feel absolutely giddy as they get to take in new changes that make sense without harming what was delivered over three years ago.
A resolve that will inspire many to play the title to completion, while leisurely assimilating its extensive lore, and its litany of character diatribes. I will always remember Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age as one of the best. A must play for gamers that love an incredible fantasy tale, and a must have for the JRPG devout.
