Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition Reviews
Inspired by the previous games, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is a must-have title for any JRPG fan, especially for those who enjoy the franchise. It manages to be nostalgic in the details, and it is modern where it really needs to be, especially in the artistic department. The gameplay maintains much of the originality of the franchise and, at the same time, has some changes that refreshes the overall experience.

It adds loads of new content, including new story scenarios, many quality-of-life features, the 2D mode from the Japan-exclusive 3DS version, and packs them all together, making it far surpass the original.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition earns my absolute highest recommendation. I cannot wait for more people to experience such a joyous celebration of all things Dragon Quest
Typically when a definitive edition releases there is a certain sense of disappointment. Either it provides a better value, through included DLC, or small touches that add a lot. But, when it comes to Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition, there is enough there to make most people happy. The 2D mode will appeal to returning fans and those who grew up with the franchise, with new stories and more to add to the already compelling adventure. Quicker battles and commands streamline the core experience to make it easier to complete what needs to be done. This also applies to crafting and other mechanics too. Honestly, in general, Square Enix took an already good base, thought of a welcome way to add content without making fans feel like they missed out, and addressed some concerns to make for a compelling experience. So, whether you loved the original release or are waiting to see what Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition offers, it's an experience everyone should strongly consider.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition brings a lot of new additions to a perfect game that is still fun to play two years after its initial release. Having a fully orchestrated soundtrack, more adventures, a 2D option, and nostalgic places to explore just leaves room for one more upgrade - a PS5 update. Regardless, if you're playing this on a PS4 or PS5, this is the best edition of the game to get and you won't be disappointed.
Dragon Quest XI S is a near unrivaled masterpiece, one I wish I could erase my memory of and re-experience for the first time.
A Masterpiece remastered.
It's easy to say a game is amazing because you simply enjoy it. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition on the other hand backs up that statement by providing one of, if not the best JRPG titles of all time. With so much added content and quality of life improvements, it's mind-blowing to me that a game so intricately designed could be made any better. Square Enix proved that no matter how good something is, it can always be better.
Dragon Quest XI is an excellent port of a superb JRPG. It’s rammed full of content, and performs excellently on the Switch. It’s the JRPG equivalent of putting on your comfiest pajamas and settling in on a rainy day - always enjoyable, wonderfully familiar, and the best way to prepare for Autumn.
While a straight port of Dragon Quest XI with the perk of playing portably on Switch would have been enticing enough, Square Enix went not just the extra mile, but many extra miles with the content rich Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition.
Dragon Quest 11 has its flaws, and it may ultimately function as a breezy trip down memory lane for the experienced and a fabulous gateway experience for the uninitiated, but that is exactly what it sets out to be. At that, it is perfect.
There are already plenty of solid roleplaying games on the Switch, but you absolutely need to add Dragon Quest XI S to your collection if you haven’t already done so. Put simply, it is still a thoroughly incredible game and almost peerless within the genre.
If you’re anything like me, your first (and only) experience with the Hero comes from playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. If the Hero has appealed to you in any way in that game as a Fighter, you owe it to yourself to play Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition. I can’t help but feel like the Switch version of the game would be my preferred choice of platform, simply since I could play the game anywhere, even if for just a few minutes at a time. However, the PlayStation 4 version comes highly recommended if you’re looking to take in the incredible visuals awaiting you in the world of Erdrea.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is the final and perfect ending to this great turn-based rpg released in 2018. It has flaws, especially the recalling missions and the tedious way to switch between 3D and 2D, but its story with own personality, memorable characters, great soundtrack and a turn-based combat system, make this game an essential in your library if you are a lover of RPGs and games in general. In addition, it will please those who want to bring back the nostalgia of past times.
