Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones Reviews
Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a fantastic RPG. The story is interesting, the characters are unique, the quests are varied, and the systems run deep. There are a variety of different ways to play this game and I can't wait to jump back in and explore some new paths. This is one nightmare I highly recommend.
This game delivers a deep RPG experience where the various choices you make, both in character creation and in gameplay, have a bearing on what happens and how you need to go about completing tasks. There are general guidelines of what needs to be done but not a whole lot of direction on how to do those things, which leaves a lot of room for creativity.
Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones will not reveal all of its secrets, but it's an amazing ride all the way through.
If you are a fan of Lovecraft’s work, you are doing yourself a huge disservice by not checking this one out.
The combination of a prose through plentiful and well-written dialogue and a peculiar, detailed cartoon art is really invigorating. Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones caught my insatiable imagination in a way no other game in the genre has done in a long time.
Faithfully adapted, bristling with depth, beautifully written and gorgeous to look at, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a fantastic role-playing game that's hampered by a frustrating and tedious combat system that is sure to turn many players away in the early goings.
Even though it lacks the presentation of a high-budget game, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is one enjoyable nightmare that I can't recommend enough to cRPG fans. Bristling with mythos creatures, beautifully-drawn environments, and great Lovecraftian inspiration, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a fantastic RPG that no fan of the cosmic horror should skip.
If you're looking for an old-school RPG (with strong Lovecraftian roots), this is definitely your game.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a niche game for sure. But if you are among its target audience, you will enjoy your stay at Arkham.

Made by an indie studio out of Turkey by the name of Cultic Games, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones has a lot going for it. It promises to be a CRPG with high replayability, meaningful choices and one heck of a creepy vibe. Stygian draws upon lots of the classical work from the Mythos but also tries to set itself apart and do its own thing.
Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones succeeds in a task many have failed, as it faithfully adapts Lovecraft’s works into an old-school RPG that will keep fans entertained for hours on end.
Post-apocalyptic RPG in strange world of HP Lovecraft can cause you to go insane.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a solid Lovecraftian RPG that will satisfy the fans of H.P. Lovecraft and thanks to the well-told story, dense atmosphere and unique combat system shouldn't disappoint anyone else. Feel free to jump on the one way trip to the mouths of madness.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is everything a fan would ask from a game about the Myths of Cthulhu. Even though bugs and poor combat may throw some people off, everyone who gives it a chance will find a title with many virtues. You can see the love of the developers towards their title and towards H.P. Lovecraft.

With all said and done, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones does somethings quite good and other things, just serviceable. The atmosphere would make Lovecraft proud but gameplay and specially the fighting system is quite boring, Graphic design is unique but not beautiful and so on.

While not recommended for casual gamers, anyone who can look past some technical imperfections and appreciate well-executed tabletop-style role playing mixed with cosmic horror will get at least a dozen enjoyable hours out of Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones.
Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a treat for die-hard Cthulhu fans. The thick, heavy atmosphere of Lovecraft’s stories drips out of every pixel. It’s a pity that I couldn’t ignore tons of bigger and smaller bugs (abysmal game stability included) that halted all the fun.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones has an interesting art direction and a good Lovecraftian inspiration, but seems to be split in half between its nice all-around RPG mechanics and a slow and not very engaging turn-based strategic combat.

Stygian is a good role-playing game, particularly if you’re the type who can really get into your character. There’s plenty to read and lots of information to take in, this isn’t a game that will please the adrenaline junkies, but if atmosphere and a feeling of reward through solving mysteries sound good then this is one to pick up.
While it isn’t a flawless experience and absolutely refuses to hold the player’s hand, it does manage to set itself apart by virtue of its unrelenting difficulty, all while telling a story that comes closer to Lovecraftian fiction than many of its contemporaries.
