Yu-No is a brilliantly written, seminal visual novel, and even in the fan service it gets things right far, far more often than it misfires.

If you are a fan of the visual novel genre, this is certainly a must play title. It’s historical presence within the category will forever be etched and shown through many of it’s counterparts, that have experimented with similar traits. YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World is certainly one of the best visual novel titles, of all time.

YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World is a great, time-bending visual novel and after playing through it, I can see why it was such a hit in Japan over 20 years ago. It’s characters are well explored, fun and witty and I’m always a sucker for a good time travel story. While it does have some pacing issues with it’s story delivery I still very much enjoyed the tale it told and loved how the A.D.M.S system allowed you to fully explore what the story had to offer and cleverly manage inventory.

YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world is a surprisingly good remake that's full of fresh ideas even today. However, the length and the slow start might deter some players. Must-play for VN fans, an interesting memento of the 90s for everyone else.

S. and Kodai's research, but Takuya's casually gross candor never stopped pulling me out of the story and reminding me of how creepy visual novels could be sometimes. YU-NO is a monumentally impressive piece of the genre's history that finds ways to impress even today, but perhaps it's best not to load a jewel placed back in the 90s and travel back to a time when "sex sells" was the core tenant of the visual novel framework.

Yu-No: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World was clearly once an incredibly daring visual novel, but some of that sense of mystery is done a disservice when revisiting the concept via this remake.

The remake of the incredibly innovative 1996 classic has finally come west, but sadly doesn't live up to it's tremendous legacy.
