I can only recommend to anyone who loved the first chapter the purchase of The Last of Us Part II and of course also to anyone who has titles with a strong narrative among their preferences. Even if the story told is necessarily violent, considering the apocalyptic situation in which the protagonists of the story find themselves, TLOU2 manages to excite also for the naturalness with which it deals with issues such as love and hope as revenge and the lesser parts of human souls. A game that will not only remain in the history of videogame but that will certainly remain forever in the memory of those who have played it and that sets new standards in terms of both narration and artistic components.

Through its incredible acting, compelling dialogue, gorgeous score, subtle touches, and ever-flowing, easy to grasp gameplay, The Last of Us Part II will undoubtedly be vying for Game of the Year Awards – probably winning many of them – but its impact is greater still. This game will change the way storytelling is done in games forever. In the eyes of the mainstream, this has further legitimized games as a powerful tool to tell a deep, enriching tale that will stay with you days, weeks, even years later. Naughty Dog have outdone themselves once again, and given the PlayStation 4 the world-class exclusive it deserves to not only say goodbye to a generation, but provide the next one with the boundless possibilities for amazing stories to come.

The Last of Us 2 is an emotional rollercoaster that doesn't always hit the mark with what it tries to pull off. It does, however, provide enough amazing highs to outweigh its unfortunate lows.

Love, rage, sadness: these feelings can easily take control of your actions, and the game perfectly demonstrates that. It’s definitely necessary to play the first one to get the full impact, but even on its own, this is a strong experience. I said it before, and I’ll say it again: The Last of Us Part II is a masterpiece. It’s a game that’s going to resonate with me for a long time, and I’m perfectly okay with that.

The game displays a thorough, haunted understanding of what cruelty for cruelty's sake can do to the soul.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a brave, daring title, ready to surprise you with sometimes extreme choices, in a spiral of revenge seasoned with blind violence and never filtered, but at the same time never an end in itself.

“All I ask is that fans of the first one put faith in us and trust us. We’re going to do right by you.” When it was announced by Naughty Dog that they were making a sequel to The Last of Us, considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all-time, Creative Director Neil Druckmann offered the above quote. After spending over 35 hours on my initial playthrough, I spent the following couple of days reflecting on the game before sitting down to write this review. So in the end, did Druckmann and the team at Naughty Dog do right by fans? Yes….and no.

The Last of Us 2 takes a massive misstep with its story, but it’s saved from failure by its brilliant gameplay. It’s slow and shallow far too often, but when the gameplay is allowed to take centre stage, there’s something special to be had. It’s a thriller and a bore, and while I enjoyed the gameplay, I don’t think I’d be able to endure it again for the New Game+ mode.

Some odd priorities, excruciating pacing, and weak character writing keep this intriguing game from being excellent, even if its gameplay and presentation have received large improvements.

The Last of Us Part II is a great work that, similarly to what the first chapter did, will indelibly mark this generation. Few game design smudges do not allow the perfect score, but they do not prevent the entry into the Olympus of video games for a courageous and memorable work.

It takes some chances with the story and some of those things might anger some people out there. They did me when they first happened but the game fully explains why they made the choices they did and by the end I saw and felt what they were going for. Naughty Dog closed out the PlayStation 3 generation with a must play title and with The Last of Us Part II they’ve once again done the same thing for the PlayStation 4.

The Last of Us 2 has to be experienced. Regardless of the information you read, the materials you see, the eavesdropping gossip - you are not ready for it. Naughty Dog has created an outstanding experience in a ruined world, offering great gameplay.

The Last of Us Part II combines a brilliant overall narrative with the best visuals and physics we’ve seen this entire generation. Despite what you may think about the actual story and the events which occur, the entire experience is GOTY material thanks to the emotional and distressing storytelling. I personally enjoyed it more the second time around, due to picking up on all the references and seeing how the two portions of the game intertwine with one another. Each location you explore has been created with tonnes of care and attention and the combat is very realistic, both mechanically and visually, so certain scenes are quite graphic and disturbing. If you enjoyed the first game, or like survival games in general, you should pick up this game today.

Let me be clear: I liked The Last of Us: Part II, and I feel like I can’t succinctly convey all of the things I wish to say about the game in 1,000 words (which I am well over at this point). The dystopian world created by the Naughty Dog team is one that I enjoy exploring and surviving in. For everything that The Last of Us: Part II gets right, though, I can’t help but feel like I just played through an extension of the same game from 2013. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, and like Ellie with Joel, I'm trying to accept the game as it is. Considering the impact that The Last of Us had on gaming, I guess I just expected to be blown away all over again.

The Last of Us Part II is an action-adventure. Set five years after The Last of Us (2013), offers to the players a great history, but a slightly innovative game mechanics. We will enjoy a story throughout its 11 chapters, which will put our feelings on the surface for about 25-30h. Despite its lights and shadows discussed throughout this analysis, Naughty Dog has made a very good game that makes us see different points of view and empathize with different situations.

The Last of Us 2 is a game that demands conflicted feelings. It engenders adoration for the brilliant graphics, compelling acting, and substantial gameplay. But the story made me feel utterly miserable, even if I really admire it.

If Naughty Dog’s singular vision won’t please everyone, the end result is at least an astonishing display of technical game-craft and cinematic storytelling. A masterpiece, if certainly one not for all tastes – and perhaps not even for all those who loved the original.

The Last of Us Part II tells a deeply upsetting, bold, and powerful story that is sadly held back by painful pacing issues. The game's structure not only holds it back narratively but also from a gameplay perspective as well. Still, Naughty Dog's PS4 swansong often operates at a level many other games never have and likely never will.
