The "Halo" series has had a pristine record when it came to online stability at launch, but now that record is tarnished. This review will be updated again once these multiplayer issues are rectified, but right now this is a major disappointment. This is a series that was built on multiplayer action, and the online features are a mess.

Despite some technical hiccups and a few nagging issues that were carried over from the original series, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is an excellent and remarkably well put together compilation.

The Master Chief Collection is a dazzling package, but the current issues around its online modes prevent us from issuing an unequivocal recommendation for the time being.

What was intended as a nostalgia trip has also become a blueprint for how remastering games ought to be done.

Halo used to be one of the big franchises that other companies wanted to kill, but 343 Industries may have done that itself with a rushed, incomplete port of four Halo classics that is compromised by bugs, and muddled multiplayer.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection's multiplayer launch problems are an unfortunate blight on what would otherwise be an exciting way to experience the franchise's evolution—online and off—in one smartly executed package.

‎In conclusion, Halo 3 comes to PC in a really good way, with a version that takes advantage of the platform on which it runs and that with a decent PC allows us to play it in a really fluid and pleasant way but with the addition of the keyboard and mouse, which is undoubtedly a very different experience to what we are used to having using the Xbox controller.‎

‎We are still facing one of the best games of the last generation. With the caveat that it now has more chances and arrives with a brilliant facelift. ‎‎There's no reason not to recommend Halo Reach‎‎ to almost any player who likes shooters, it's a veteran who has aged great and is simply a must-have. ‎The milestone of bringing the entire Master Chief Collection to PC will give the franchise a breath of fresh air, and it's good that the first title to arrive is Reach.‎

Halo 3 therefore proves to be a re-edition perfectly in line with the standards to which the guys of 343 Industries have accustomed us in recent years, which will be attractive both in the eyes of old fans and those of any newbies eager to recover one of the most valuable pieces in the videogame history of the last twenty years.

This game is the love song to Halo fans and a bridge to Halo 5, any fan of the franchise would be crazy to miss out. If you're new to the franchise then it's just good content for cost.

With more than ten years worth of Halo content offered on one disc, The Master Chief Collection is one of the most robust curations I've ever seen. Not only does it offer you just about everything you could possibly want from Halo, but it does so on your terms, via a simplified navigation menu in which you are free to decide what to play.

The Master Chief Collection successfully brings the Halo franchise to the XBox One and with Halo 5 just around the corner, this is the perfect compendium to replay the entire series on this amazing console. More importantly, The Master Chief Collection retails for around $79AUD (November 2014) which is true value for money and given the amount of content from both single-player to multiplayer, it's really hard to find a place to start.

While I pointed out a few faults in the game, they are nitpicky at best. At its core this is a collection worth the price tag. It's the franchise that changed an entire generation of gamers. It is the franchise even non-Halo fans want to play. Halo: The Master Chief Collection may not hold all things Halo, but it's got it where it counts. It's these areas that I enjoy and look forward to see what's next. Simply put, there's no reason for an owner of an Xbox One to not have Halo: The Master Chief Collection, well unless they happen to also be a robot. Robots can't make good decisions.
