For a re-imagining of an arcade classic, BurgerTime Party! is pretty enjoyable. The creative premise, cartoony visuals and multiplayer mayhem are all a part of this multiple course meal.
With today’s super elaborate games and complex mechanics, sometimes a little simplicity can be very refreshing. BurgerTime might not be the most famous ’80s arcade game, but I think it’s underrated and deserves a second look today.
BurgerTime Party recreates the fun of the arcade classic, but adds new "toppings," like multiplayer and a stunning new art direction, to make this a winner.
MEDIOCRE - BurgerTime Party is a mediocre introduction of the series to a new generation. The core gameplay remains the same, but everything else just hurts the experience. Lackluster level designs, content stretched to the point of tedium, undercooked multiplayer modes, and terribly unappealing aesthetics contribute to its downfall. As a budget title, this wouldn’t be so bad, but at the asking price of $20 you’re best off playing the original game.
Burger Time Party! is an excellent example of how to modernize a classic from over 30 years ago and make it relevant again.
BurgerTime Party is a solid modern rendition of this classic game, and my mother who is a long time fan approves of it.
There’s a lot to enjoy here for BurgerTime fans, and I have always been one of them. If you are already a fan, I think you will really enjoy the game. However, if you already know you aren’t a fan of the series, then please skip the game. The new ingredients (pun intended again) will not change your mind at all and may actually reinforce the elements you don’t like.
Burgertime Party is a pretty basic but fun title for individuals and groups alike, though its somewhat lifeless animation and lack of variety make it hard to recommend for its current price-point.
In the end, BurgerTime Party! can be a fun experience, but doesn’t have a long lasting appeal. I only spent 3 to 4 hours playing. But thanks to it being on the Switch, the game does have the virtue of being a decent portable experience where you play five stages and then can be on your way. Unfortunately, I can’t give an opinion on the multi-player aspect, having played only single-player. Priced at $19.99, you will get your money’s worth just by content alone, especially if you’re a fan of more arcade-like games. If you are more uncertain, I reckon waiting for a price drop before taking a bite.
As a huge fan of the original arcade title I'm happy to report that this nostalgic trip is a pretty great one, maintaining the integrity and experience of the main game while giving both the visuals and the core gameplay itself an upgrade...
Gamers looking for rewarding arcade fun will love BurgerTime Party!
BurgerTime Party might not be a flawlessly grilled adventure, but it winds up being something around the ballpark of medium rare.
BurgerTime Party! should scratch an itch for those who remember and enjoyed the classic BurgerTime game the way I did, with more levels, modes and a pleasant presentation. It makes a fun enough diversion, even if your enjoyment will probably taper off after a handful of hours, because there is no real story to chase and the mechanics of the game never really progress into anything more than their initial hook.
BurgerTime Party is a title that feels overstuffed.
Whether through loyalty or lethargy, BurgerTime Party! just doesn't do enough with the original arcade game's formula to make this reboot worth checking out.
If you can look past the ugly artwork, you’ll find it really is a good game with hours of fun!
If I could find a $7.99 port of the BurgerTime arcade game (or, preferably, its Intellivision counterpart), that would be enough. That doesn't exist, however, so thankfully BurgerTime Party adds enough new content to justify its $19.99 asking price. The core arcade gameplay is as fun as ever, and although not all of the additions are necessary (or wanted), Marvelous got enough right to make this an entertaining diversion whether you're playing with a group or on your own.
When it gets on with the bun-lobbing antics of classic BurgerTime, this is a great reminder of an arcade gem. But too many co-op cooks spoil the broth, and the recipe is overstuffed with extras that detract from the core flavour. That said, any game that lets you leave a trail of murdered pickles as you fight up the online leaderboard can't be all bad. Just a tad overcooked, perhaps.
If you want nothing more than modernized BurgerTime, then you’ll be satisfied with this modern edition. If you were hoping for revolutionized BurgerTime, though, you unfortunately won’t find it here.
All in all, BurgerTime Party! is a delightful take on an older classic, with catchy music and funny sound effects that are perfect for those who enjoy simple platformers.
