Rain of Reflection: Chapter 1 has a winning formula of narrative and gameplay that, despite not being a traditional pairing, form an excellent symbiosis. The systems will all be familiar to fans of interactive storytelling games and XCOM-likes, but they've all been implemented so cleanly that they feel fresh. The only real negative is its short runtime, which leaves you wishing the developers had waited to release the entire game at once.

Overall, I am really glad to have played Rain of Reflection. It may be an episodic game but I absolutely enjoyed it. The graphics were extremely well done, the music was absolutely breathtaking, and the gameplay was unique. It's story is one that I need to see the end of, and I can't wait to see what happens to this universe.

Rain of Reflections: Chapter 1 combines point and click adventure with turn-based strategy to share an interesting if slightly clunky sci-fi tale.

Rain of Reflections: Chapter 1 engages us in successful gameplay by mixing up adventure and turn-based strategy genres. However, the vague story and the poor characterization prevent it from being a quite memorable experience

Rain of Reflections Chapter 1: Set Free is a competent point and click adventure with fun ideas and an interesting world. Unfortunately, the game's short length and poor voice acting prevent it from becoming great.

Rain of Reflections offers a neat adventure game fused with the combat element which sets it above similar games. Chapter 1 acts as an introduction and if the following two chapters expand upon the ideas here (especially the turn-based combat) then this will be an interesting series to dive into. The hacking lets the game down somewhat, but perhaps some players will enjoy the mild puzzle element here. For under £15 it’s not bad value at all but in terms of replay it’s not offering too many choices if any at all considering once you playthrough you know what to expect. Perhaps a difficulty option could have improved replay. As it stands, Rain of Reflections comes as a interesting prospect but not a game for all players.

Rain of Reflections: Episode 1 isn’t perfect, but kicks off what seems like a strong story, offering a tantalising taste of things to come with a mood-setting soundtrack that I’d happily listen to on its own.

Right now, I can’t fully recommend this game as it stands, unless you’re really into hacking mini-games.
