I definitely recommend this game for anyone who wants something that is story driven but wants something to play casually without having to commit to a 1000-hour saga.

While the story at times felt a bit trite, and the enemies can feel a bit repetitive, this game is fun to play. While it will only take players around twelve to thirteen hours to complete the first playthrough, between the Apocalyptic difficulty setting, Arena mode, and metroidvania type puzzles, players will find themselves sinking dozens of hours into the game well after completing their first playthrough.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Darksider Genesis. The ending leaves much to be desired but the experience to get there was brutally fun and exciting. It takes around 12-15 hours to complete the main campaign and the arena is added content so overall, the game is a great package. I will be playing this next year on a console just to experience it all over again.

Darksiders Genesis’s superb blend of action, platforming and exploration make it one of the best games of the year.

Despite the fundamental changes to the series' viewpoint, Darksiders Genesis feels like a true Darksiders game, and banishes any memory of the lacklustre third entry.

We’ll come out and say it: Darksiders Genesis feels a lot like some of our favorite parts of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games mixed with Darksiders tone and puzzle-solving.

From the gorgeous visuals to the smooth, frenetic combat and environments that beg to be explored, the quality on display here is incredibly impressive. Despite a smattering of minor issues and a few iffy design choices, Darksiders Genesis is still a fantastic videogame, and might even be the best Darksiders game to date.

Darksiders Genesis is by far the best game in the series. As someone who has played all of them, I can honestly say that this is more than a hack and slash game where you slay demons, but a kick-ass demon slaying game that has found new life by remixing what it does best and incorporating the best features of other games to create something new in the series.

Darksiders Genesis is a great top-down action game despite some minor issues.

Darksiders Genesis may be one of the best games in the Darksiders franchise. The banter between War and Strife works on so many levels, and the added co-op support is the icing on the cake. Yes, I would have preferred to see matchmaking and positioning on the map, but neither are deal-breakers. The camera doesn't always cooperate with some of the platforming sections, but I mostly enjoyed the 15 hours spent playing through the campaign. You are free to replay any of the 16 chapters to collect any missing items/cores. The arena mode lets you take your characters into battle against ten grueling waves of enemies.

Despite the drastically different change in perspective, the game feels quintessentially Darksiders. For fans, it is a must-play. For anyone with even a passing interest, it is also a must-play.

Literal moves you performed as War in the original game are transferred to perfection here -- Darksiders Genesis is simply Honey I Shrunk the Horseman, but that's okay.

Darksiders Genesis is probably the biggest surprise hit of 2019. Despite the low starting price you get a game that shouldn't hide behind the original games or even the Diablo Series in terms of gameplay variety and content.

Maybe Darksiders Genesis looks like a small game with a limited budget at the first look, but developers have used this budget as best as possible to create a title that unlike Darksiders III, feels like a Darksiders game and is faithful to the roots of this series.

Airship Syndicate has carried a successful experiment that brought freshness to the Darksiders series. Isometric perspective works perfectly and thanks to that game is dynamic and eye-catching even though visual side of it isn’t the greatest. I must admit that Darksiders Genesis is one of my biggest positive surprises of this year. I recommend this part of the series to all Darksiders and hack 'n' slash genre fans.

Darksiders Genesis tries its hand at something new once more and finds more successes than fails. Strife is another great character for the series. Genesis has excellent art direction, varied enemies with fun combat in either solo or co-op play. Do not lose the balance by missing this title!

Darksiders is a fantastic game that successfully merges elements from Zelda and God of War to make a gritty classic all on its own.
