There is a lot to love about Dead Rising 3's latest DLC. For $10 it is impossible not to recommend to Xbox One owners who still have the game, especially those with a fondness for classic Capcom titles. The grind for costumes and the stiff controls are the only things holding this back, the rest is pure chaotic fun, and when I bring my friends, the intensity only increases.

Capcom clearly had a lot of fun designing this DLC, as even the title pokes fun at its tendencies and strategies throughout the years. While it's clear that the company has let more than a few of fans down over the years, every so often it has been known to surprise people, and this is one of those occasions.

The Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha DLC is a nice addition to a very solid core game. The arcade style gameplay is loads of fun, especially with friends, and the levels lend themselves well to replayability, even if you're just grinding for costume requirements. Nostalgic gamers will enjoy the references to Capcom's history, especially since it ranges from obvious to obscure, and the new presentation makes everything feel fresh. It isn't enough to make you forget about the four disappointing DLC packs that were previously released, but it's enough to get you excited about the series again.

The stripped-down gameplay suits the retro vibe, but only the most dedicated players will endure the grind

It's very easy to be caught up in the giddy swirl of this DLC, but the rush is rather short-lived. In many ways, it's a spiritual sibling to Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon expansion. Both are fuelled by a heady brew of nostalgia and adrenalin, and both have tongue so firmly implanted in cheek that it bursts out the other side. Where Blood Dragon built to a manic crescendo, however, after the first few hours SUDR3ARHEEXPA too easily turns into a fun but flawed grind for all but the most dedicated Capcom aficionado.

Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha Review turns Dead Rising 3 down into a royal retro rumble. Fantastic fun with three friends, especially when you've unlocked a few costumes, but ultimately arena DLC in a game that's still crying out for a quality story expansion. For most, though, destroying hordes of zombies as Mayor Haggar will be worth the price of admission.

I enjoyed mindlessly killing zombies more in the base game than I did in the arcade style DLC. I guess that's all I have to say about that.
