Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth blends nostalgia with innovation, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers. The game impresses with its enhanced visuals and storytelling, setting a high bar for the adventure ahead, and it impresses with its satisfying combat mechanics, abundance of mini-games, and memorable soundtrack. While it navigates through some questionable story changes and occasional clunky exploration, Rebirth offers a rich and immersive experience. It skillfully tells a great story, making it a compelling play as it gears up for the trilogy's conclusion.

I had high expectations for the Final Fantasy VII Remake due to the hype around the game when it was first revealed. I’m happy to say that my expectations were met and then some. I loved every second I had with this game (niggles aside) and was engrossed in its world and its story. The characters are a joy to spend time with and I was with them every step of the way. There were twists I didn’t expect and moments that just had me smiling more than I had in a game for years. As someone who hasn’t played the original, I’m not sure how the Final Fantasy VII fans will feel about its changed story, or how different it plays, but to anyone who is looking for a great JRPG to play then look no further than this.

The first episode of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series gets off to a strong start, and despite the odd graphical blemish, pacing issue and bizarre plot addition, it's hard not to be optimistic about what comes next.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake takes an old classic and creates a game that both new generation players and old fans will love. One of the strongest candidates to be the game of the year.

Final Fantasy VII Remake as a project is not a simple retelling of the story that people fell in love with back on the PS1. It’s a sequel. In many ways, it’s a response to the decades of fandom and cries for the game to be remade.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has re-envisioned the classic game, delivering a much expanded upon but faithful adaptation of the Midgar portion of the Final Fantasy 7 story. Providing brand new twists and turns to the narrative and plenty of great character development. It’s likely still years away, but I truly can’t wait to see what Square Enix have in store for us in the next entry in this multi part remake of one of the greatest games of all time.

In the end, when the world of Remake is so painstakingly realized, the combat so immersive, the characters this fully brought to life, I found it difficult to remain steadfast in my apathy towards its source material. Even as the game reaches its heart-stopping conclusion, hinting at not just a greater villain to confront, but a saga on the verge of sweeping you away, Remake feels complete.

With "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" Square Enix delivers a fantastic remake of the former roleplaying game classic and enriches it with some technical and content innovations. The combat system features a whole new level of complexity, while the developers are still focusing on the strengths of the original. The game world is atmospherically set in scene, while the elaborately animated game sequences are accompanied by a grandiose soundtrack. While "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" lacks nothing of narrative depth, the game weakens occasionally by blurred textures. Nevertheless, with "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" the players are served a more than successful action-RPG, which will especially delight the fans of the original. Ultimately, players can be curious to see how the adventure of Cloud and his friends continues and whether the developers will soon release the next episode of the successful role-playing game.

There are some terrific improvements, and the soundtrack is still just as excellent as it was when I first played this game in 1997, but the story itself hasn’t aged well and these new liberties are paltry and weak. I’m hoping to be wowed in Remake part two.

While nostalgia can be a strong force for some players, Final Fantasy VII Remake is an outstanding title in its own right.

All I am left to say is that Final Fantasy VII Remake is a superb RPG for fans and newcomers, and even with all the changes, it still captures the heart of Final Fantasy VII, a special accomplishment that will make the fans fall in love with the title all over again.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake is a must-have for any fan of either JRPGs or Final Fantasy games altogether. It is a great introduction to the deep lore established over 23 years ago and well worth the trip for any fan seeking to return to Midgar. I look forward to part II and hope the momentum created by this game is carried throughout the years to come.

It offers almost everything I could have asked for, like a masterful conductor and the world’s best symphony orchestra adding elements to your favourite song that you didn’t even know it needed.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake does both the best and worst things to enhance the original. The battle system is a great step forward despite a cumbersome camera and the world building is second to none. Characters are faithful to their original counterparts, boasting some wonderful voice acting from all involved and some of the locations are a joy to revisit all these years later. While the nostalgic slices of the original game are easily the highlight of the entire 30/35 hour experience, Remake is let down by inconsistent pacing, narrative and design choices, ones that have serious ramifications for the second part to come.

It’s so refreshing for Square Enix to put out a game with minimal issues, especially since there are fundamental problems that have plagued these games since arguably Final Fantasy X on PS2.
