Resident Evil 3 is a mostly superb remake of a horror classic with many clever spins on the formula and fluid, enthralling gameplay. I just wish there was more of it.

Just as the 1999 original was a more action-focused Resident Evil game that arguably helped pivot the franchise towards the iconic fourth instalment, this 2020 reimagining feels like last year’s game in many ways, only sped up and thirstier for zombie blood. It treads the line between tension and action impressively, and Nemesis cements his legacy as one of the series’ most enduring creatures.

Resident Evil 3 Remake manages to deliver a somewhat authentic remake of the classic game. While it lacks some iconic areas and enemies, it does keep you at the edge of your seat as you face some rather deadly threats. Once the game is over, you can purchase some items from the shop to enhance your next playthroughs like medals that grant health regen and over-powered weapons like a laser gun.. Will I go back and do another? I doubt it.

Resident Evil 2 set the standard for videogame remakes in 2019. Resident Evil 3 should serve as a cautionary tale for the pitfalls of videogame remakes in 2020.

Resident Evil 3 is a heart-pounding nightmare that blends survival horror and action elements perfectly with the help of its two protagonists. There’s so much to explore and discover during every moment of this thriller that it’s easy to forget about the horrors that await just around the corner. However, the limited puzzles and short length make it tough to justify the full price. But, like a zombie hungry for brains, I can’t seem to get enough of this game.

Comparing it to the last entry of the reborn franchise will be hard to avoid, just as it was while reviewing the title. As a standalone experience, RE3 is quite solid. It's still an intense, fast paced, survival-horror adventure; jam packed with bombastic sequences, subtle comedy, and a cast of memorable characters that re-counts their story to an entirely new generation.

Resident Evil 3 is still a fantastic narrative experience that should be enjoyed by fans of the franchise as well as fans of the action-horror genre.

“Jill Valentine’s brash attitude and confidence give Resident Evil 3 a Paul Verhoeven 80’s feel that nobody should miss.”

Much like its predecessor, Resident Evil 3 offers a remake that’s both revolutionary and brilliant in design. It is shorter and more condensed than last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake, but it comes with a bigger focus on action-orientated set pieces and, of course, the epic showdowns with Nemesis. Add to that the all-new ideas that the game implements as well as the inclusion of a multiplayer mode (which admittedly we haven’t got to play a whole lot of yet), and you’ll quickly find that Capcom have something special here. The shorter length and some frustrating moments here and there do see Resident Evil 3 feeling a little inferior when compared to the Resident Evil 2 remake, but only just – it still just so happens to be a brilliant survival horror experience that fans of the series are sure to love.

Despite some shortcomings regarding the game’s length and how Nemesis is used in the opening hours, the Resident Evil 3 Remake is yet another excellent addition to the franchise and a perfect way to bring that classic back to the spotlight.

Resident Evil 3 is the third successive game after Resident Evil 7 that has managed to offer an exceptional experience to the players, and it seems like we have to get used to this successful formula that Capcom has created. Masterful presentation, eye-catching visuals, realistic 3D models and excellent characterization and storytelling are all enough reason to amuse all the player; whether old fans of the series or newcomers.

While last year’s Resident Evil 2 took the story and settings of the original game and expanded them into a finely tuned masterpiece, Resident Evil 3 feels like it took a much different approach. The story, and the path it takes from beginning to end, has seen some substantial changes compared to the original to the point where it’s sometimes difficult to see any semblance of its source material under this new coat of polygons and paint.

There’s a lot about Resident Evil 3 to love. Its combat is meatier, its linearity makes for an interesting change of pace, and Nemesis is pure nightmare fuel in all the right ways. Yet, the game’s pace is simply too hasty for its brief runtime. In the end, it’s an enjoyable – but noticeably rushed – remake, that never quite matches the heights of its outstanding predecessor.

The Resident Evil 3 Remake is a fantastic and consistently-tense horror game that takes an already brilliant game and updates it to be even better in a few departments.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is less Resident Evil 3, and more of its own being. A great game, but lacks what made the original amazing.

No matter how you look at it, Resident Evil 3 is a stark fall from grace for Capcom. With the developer firing on all cylinders ever since the return-to-form release of Resident Evil 7, this is the company’s first blunder in years.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is a good and enjoyable game with high repetition value that with its great design and engaging gameplay, can keep players entertained for hours. But the lack of balance between the horror-surviving and action-packed parts makes the game overly focused on providing a cinematic action experience. In the end, Resident Evil 3 is a good game, not a classic Resident Evil that most fans want.

Resident Evil 3 is the video game equivalent of Die Hard. It has great characters, a simple yet effective story, a terrifying villain, astounding action, and it’s a great time. Also like a movie, the remake of Resident Evil 3 struggles under the weight of what came before it.

With the remake of Resident Evil 3, Capcom is taking a daring step, because this is rather a reinterpretation of the classic. Unfortunately, the very strong staging and the very intense first player experience do not hide the small size and the wasted potential.
