Resident Evil 3 is uncomfortable but exhilarating. There’s a thrill in the danger, like roaming a haunted house or riding a roller coaster.

As last year's Resident Evil 2, this remake of Resident Evil 3 is an almost impeccable work from Capcom, redefining the meaning of what a remake is. A letter of love for all the fans out there.

The element of fear that Resident Evil is known for isn't as fully baked into the mechanics of this remake as it could have.

An action-packed, atmospheric new edition of the classic, but which is still in the shadow of its predecessor.

Resident Evil 3 is a solid remake that aptly pays homage to the original RE3 by failing to live up to its immediate predecessor. While the core gameplay remains strong, with engaging gun controls and a new dodge mechanic that very much feels at home, Raccoon City itself feels disappointingly constrained and its star performer, the Nemesis, has been relegated to scripted sequences. The cloud-related hiccups we encountered here serve as a reminder that the technology is far from perfect, but even if it were, Resident Evil 3 is far from essential. We'd recommend it for the most passionate fans of Capcom's survival horror franchise who are after another quick fix; everyone else should start with - and probably stick with - RE2.

Short it may be, but Resident Evil 3 is also delightfully sweet. Or as sweet as a survival horror game possibly can be, anyway. Pared back, streamlined and completely brilliant, you'll have a blast outrunning Nemesis all over again.

While some spirit has been lost in translation, Resident Evil 3 is superbly paced and one of the better modern Resident Evil games, and a chapter that any horror fan shouldn’t miss.

Instead of modernizing 1999's Resident Evil 3, Capcom has remodeled 2019's remake of Resident Evil 2. Dazzling production and clever level design are still effective fuel for the survival horror engine, but this reliance on familiar techniques dissolves any expectation of novelty and ambition. In Resident Evil 3, Jill is less the subject of a despairing escape and more the product of a regulated, orderly departure.

Capcom does it again. Resident Evil 3 may by shorter and more linear than I'd fancy, but the 7 hours needed to complete the story whizzed by and I was more than content. The game is pretty, interesting and has the one and only – Nemesis. Ah, Nemesis…

Given the success of Resident Evil 2, fans with high expectations will likely be disappointed with Resident Evil 3. While they did a fantastic job of modernizing the classic, a number of features were omitted, ultimately making it hard to recommend to fans. Between a short story, with no real reason to play it a second time, it falls short of what we saw with the last remake. Nevertheless, if you're okay with that shortcoming or want to see a new version of Jill's escape from Raccoon City, you'll likely not be too disappointed.

Resident Evil 3 is a solid remake, it looks and feels fresh compared to the original. But when you take a look at the much better Resident Evil 2 you notice that the time and care taken with the two games is much different thus creating a very different experience from the previous game.

It’s polished beyond belief, offering immaculate sound design, tense highs and crushing lows. Speedrunners will have a field day with it, and I’m sure clever tactics will make for some choice livestreams. It’s trouble is that it follows so closely to Resident Evil 2, that it pales in comparison on nearly every front.

Much like a straight-to-DVD sequel, Resident Evil 3 is enjoyable on its own brief terms. While the game it's riffing on is excellent, it feels like a rehash rather than a remake.

On its own, the remake of Resident Evil 3 is another hallmark achievement for Capcom. It may not satisfy purists of the original, but there's no reason that fans of what the RE2 remake accomplished won't enjoy this.

Resident Evil 3 fails to reach the heights of Resident Evil 2 remake, has a shorter and easier campaign and cuts off some iconic locations like The Clock Tower and Raccoon Park.

Resident Evil 3 constantly hints at greatness, but never quite reaches the heights of the PS1 original. It's a solid enough game, but not nearly as impressive as other recent Resident Evil titles, and not nearly as good as it could and should have been.

Resident Evil 3 joins its forbearer as another top notch remake. I'm happy to see what Capcom has been doing with the series and wonder where they'll take it next.
