The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is an alright extension to the show, but not necessarily a stand out within the turned based genre.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics brings back a beloved favorite in a reimagined way while also introducing a classic to a new audience. It celebrates the creative creatures we were introduced to in the Netflix series without feeling like a product-placement. If you’re looking for an introduction into tactics-style games and already love the world of The Dark Crystal this game is definitely worth checking out.

I enjoyed my time with Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics. It provided lots of variety, both in map design as well as gameplay options, while providing a, mostly, fair challenge. It keeps mostly to the plot of the series, though there are embellishments along the way.

GOOD - The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is a fun and interesting tactics title that will keep you entertained for many hours and will give you as much enjoyment as you want to put into it. Take your time and explore all that it has to offer by way of secondary jobs and learning the strengths and weaknesses of each character type.

There will be some fans who will find content here to enjoy, however, with the vast breadth and depth of the Nintendo Switch library, those looking for quality games can no doubt find better candidates elsewhere.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics ends up doing just enough for fans of both The Dark Crystal and fans of tactical RPGs. It has enough features that allow it to stand out when compared to other titles available. Sadly, the pacing of the story and battles are relatively fast, which means that you’ll continually feel rewarded, but you won’t have an attachment to the characters.

I have to admit folks, me and this game simply didn’t gel. At first I was worried entering blind with no attachment would lessen my experience, but it seems my disappointment has been equally shared by fans alike. I also defend that a game should do a solid job of supporting its source material, even a simple tie-in should never settle itself as a lesser package. Despite this, there are some things this game does. The combat is of solid construct...

Oh, how beautiful the game could have been. Unfortunately, so much potential was thrown away during the video game implementation of the Netflix production. Besides the fantastic puppet epic, this game here unfortunately seems like a loveless attempt to make some money out of the Netflix success. There is a lack of attention to detail at every corner. Thral could have offered so much, but nothing was taken advantage of. The story presentation alone could have looked so much better. A co-op multiplayer might have been able to give it a little bit more, but again the chance was missed. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is nothing more than a mediocre lap strategy game to me - it could have been so much more.

In all, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is a really solid strategy game. The pacing will not be for everyone, but the character progression and slower, more thoughtful approach to gameplay works well with this darkly themed fantasy title. It does not really bring anything new to the table, but what the game does, it does pretty well.

A dumb and predictable tactics game that goes by the book in a way that completely neutralizes all its ability to surprise or engage in any meaningful way.

Despite my complaints, I really did enjoy playing The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics. As a fan of the genre, I found a lot to appreciate, despite my lack of familiarity with the source material. Though I can’t say this with certainty, since there’s no in-game timer, I estimate I spent about 22 hours playing through the game. Once you beat it, you unlock a New Game+, though I didn’t have enough time to test that out. Though it’s relatively linear, I felt I got my money’s worth for $19.99. If you’re a fan of tactics games, I’d say AoRT is worth the price of admission, even if I hope it gets some DLC to flesh things out and fix the quirks.

Strong combat dragged down by grind-heavy design, messy menus, and missing quality of life features.

Its beginning hours may not be exciting but once things start to open up, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics becomes a fantastic SRPG that allows for a great deal of party customization and offers plenty of varied battle scenarios.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is a solid game, especially if you like the source material. If you aren't interested in the show or strategy games, then this won't convince you to like them in any meaningful way. While it was nice to replay the first season of Netflix's show, this was a missed opportunity to capitalize on the success of this new era of puppet mastery.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is quite a sizeable game for its price – you can expect to get at least ten hours of play out of it. It has decent music and visuals, too. It’s just a shame that its story isn’t engaging at all

he answer is this: a confused, incomplete narrative, an uninspired fantasy world, and some of the most shallow tactics RPG action that we've ever seen in a game.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics isn't a swing and miss, because there wasn't a swing. This is a quirky and strangely-charming world, but the game has dulled it to a bog-standard strategy game, leaving behind the technical prowess that made the show interesting, and playing it safe in a way The Dark Crystal creator, Jim Henson, never would.

Based on an important IP, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is a competent game that doesn't do anything too good or too bad, but it'll hardly conquer anyone besides the most passionate about the series.
