"Hey, what can you do to keep a strong franchise active between games?" Well, cool stuff like this, turning a TPS into an RTS ...... oh shit, into a turn-based strategy game. "And will I like it?" Definitely. Because that's the great achievement of Gears Tactics, changing genre, making it fun, well balanced and measured. And may the original spirit continue and be maintained for all those millions of players who only want to saw larvae, or pierce them with their retro-lancer. Splash Damage and The Coalition have nailed it to diversify into a franchise born of adrenaline and direct play.

Gears Tactics takes the great third person pop and stop shooter, into a new turn based, tactical realm.
Gears Tactics has managed to capture the essence of the Gears franchise and move it into an entirely new genre. The fun and fast-paced tactics-based gameplay is perfectly mixed with all the hallmarks of the Gears series with very few downsides.
It's not always easy for the game development team to decide to deviate so much from one of their flagship products, but in this case the audacity has been able to pay off by offering a title that will not disappoint old fans but rather is destined to become a real must for lovers of strategy in general. The boss fights and variety of missions, as well as the whole lookout game, are additions that make the genre even more dynamic and fun that gives you a slight vibe of Starship Troopers. Comparison with other titles is inevitable but Gears Tactics manages to emerge and even lay the foundations for future projects that we honestly can't wait to try.

Gears Tactics is a great fit for the IP and its gameplay complexity matches – and sometimes surpasses – that of other long-established IPs in the genre.
Gears Tactics is turn based excellence, a strategy title that takes the Gears of War franchise in an interesting new direction.
Gears Tactics is the perfect mix for me. Great universe and great gameplay. It may still be a little better, but it's already a MUST for many... While there are still a few things you can improve.

Gears Tactics shows that the series has great potential in other styles if implemented properly.

Gears Tactics does a fantastic job at applying the X-COM formula to the Gears of War franchise despite it not changing much from the core gameplay. While the intrusiveness of side missions and some weak ability progression take away from the overall experience, Gears Tactics is a must-play for Gears fans and turned-based shooter fans alike.
This title can be regarded as a huge success for a spin-off, and is quite enjoyable. However, its side missions have caused it to fall short of achieving masterpiece status. Regardless, this game is recommended to all fans of the series

Everything about Gears Tactics screams quality, and it's easily one of the best debut titles this genre has seen in years. It's nearly time for X-COM to step aside – this genre just went up a Gear.
Gears Tactics is a solid turn-based strategy game that has something for genre veterans and newcomers alike.
Gears Tactics kept me entertained for the full 30 or so hours it took me to finish the campaign. Hopefully, the developers take the issues I and many others have brought up to heart, and deliver an excellent sequel a few years down the road.
From the rushing melee-based Creepers to exploding Tickers to enemy snipers that can pin one of your squad members into place, there’s diversity in how each firefight plays out.
Gears Tactics requires a specific approach. Players looking for complex gameplay similar to the ancient UFO need to be warned – GT is even simpler than the newest XCOMs. It’s definitely not a game to cater to core veterans. However, this is the perfect introduction to tactical strategy for anyone who found the complexity intimidating!

While Gears Tactics has some refining to do, it’s hard not to recommend
Gears Tactics is a round game that knows how to adapt the essence of the franchise to a new format. And it does so in a masterful way, adapting its unique characteristics and bringing new elements to the tactical genre. A good example is the final bosses and the way to face them, something unique and that brings a breath of fresh air into the game itself.
