While the rejection of these moments of Dragon Ball Z’s story is upsetting, Kakarot still plays well. It’s the Dragon Ball Z game we’ve always wanted; warts and all, Kakarot is hands-down a ballistic and powerful adaptation of one of anime’s greatest shows. Just like how CyberConnect 2’s Naruto games vastly improved by the time the fourth and final entry came around, Kakarot only requires minimal tweaking to become one of DBZ’s greatest games.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is not a typical game. It is first an ANIME SHOW and then a game. In other words, you will WATCH the animated series and play some parts of it, mainly during the fighting moments. It is divided into 4 sagas which cover the DBZ story from Vegeta to Majin Buu. The feeling of "playing the game" is stronger in-between the main missions when you can travel around the zones to train, collect items, do side missions, build machines, and complete achievements. To keep loyal to what DBZ is, at most part of the gameplay you will be FIGHTING. Combat controls are really simple and favorable to the use of special attacks. The RPG portion of the game looks complex at first, but as you play the game you will understand it's simple and complementary. And remember, having fun with this game is directly related to whether you like the TV show or not.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is by far the most ambitious anime game to date, showing great passion for Akira Toriyama's work. It has a vast and rich open-world, but sadly the poorly implemented side quests and other mistakes hold the experience back.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot isn’t a particularly bad game — it’s average at worst, but it’s simply frustrating to see it miss the mark on so many things that should work in a Dragon Ball game.
It appeals not only to the fans of the series, but introduces enough high-quality story and game elements to make it a decent RPG even for newcomers… to a degree.
Taking the concept of an open world RPG and going all out on the nostalgia, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a retelling of the iconic series.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will appeal to fans of the series without a doubt despite the familiarity of events. However, if you’re like us and aren’t overly familiar with the wider DBZ story then this serves as an entertaining ride to get up-to-speed. The RPG elements aren’t so interesting here although levelling-up moves and the community board is welcome. The fighting works very well and despite some repetition is the main event here. Can we recommend the game then? Well yes it serves as a decent offering for newcomers and younger gamers especially. However, it could improve in some areas such as a more adaptive combat system that allows for advanced players to shine.
This game is weird to me. It’s very long, and has a lot of boring activities/fluff that makes it annoying to play sometimes. But in all honesty, the game is just too charming to put down. Its style, score, and even length are all so deliciously Dragon Ball that it puts a smile on my face. I’ve put more than 50 hours into this game, and just keep coming back. This feels more like a love letter to Dragon Ball than a game, and honestly I’m okay with that. There’s nothing technically wrong with it, other than some minor frame drops, and it even has a Compendium of information and collectibles from across the Dragon Ball world, including some of the old card game from the Dragon Ball Z: Collectible Card Game. Every last detail, even the title cards with narration, just makes me feel like I’m a kid again watching my favorite Saturday morning show. I can’t really recommend this game unless you’re both a die hard Dragon Ball and RPG fan, and also feel like spending $59.99 on a story you’ve probably seen thousands of times. But if you are like me, I think you’ll find a lot to enjoy about this game, despite all of its flaws. From the second that “Cha-La Head-Cha-La” starts blaring, to the image of Goku staring out over the wilderness, I guarantee it’ll spark joy inside you. It truly is the best example of a Dragon Ball Z video game.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a huge ARPG game that has become the dream of every Dragon Ball fan. CyberConnect2 gives us a game that does not focus solely on combat and cinematics to give us a long adventure, but a title in which we grow with our character, which sometimes is as if we had an interactive chapter in front of us and that is full of touches of nostalgia through the melodies of the series or mythical dialogues in the cinematics.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot feels like it doesn’t know what it really wants to be. It’s great as a love letter to all things Dragon Ball but fails to impress in any way as an action-adventure JRPG.
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is a solid action game with an enjoyable customization system and fun battles. It lacks in innovation with the story repeating events from the popular anime, but this is merely a design decision and has no bearing on the overall quality of the product.
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is an excellent addition to Akira Toriyama's infamous Dragon Ball franchise, While the game retells the classic story that we all know and love, I do wish we got to see some more original things in there. The game captures the feel of Dragon Ball so well that I can highly recommend it to someone who has never seen or read DBZ.
The combat design is not as good as you would expect from a fighting focused game and the RPG systems are buried under some very confusing UI and menus but all in all, this is one of the best and most fulfilling Dragon Ball video game experiences.

For the Nintendo Switch owners, who also happen to be fans of Dragonball Z franchise, one of the best of all has now become available for the popular handheld. New addition of difficulty adjustments allow you to enjoy the game as close as the original manga’s anointed amount of power levels for each character and new story contents will let you extend the play time up to 50 hours of gameplay. But if you’re new to the immense world of DBZ, there will be several obstacles that may bring some disappointments. It’s a fitting game to remind you of the grand sentiments that you felt from the original animated series.

EXCELLENT - Eat, train, and fight like Goku and all the other Z Fighters now from the comfort of your Flying Nimbus! The Switch version is a great way to play through this lengthy game!
If you're a Dragon Ball fan and want to explore the story again in a more immersive way, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is sure to please. Some gameplay moments may show its slowness and become a bit repetitive after a while, but the experience is, in general, quite fun and complete for fans of the series.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on Switch delivers the same high action available on other platforms at the cost of some visual graphics. Frame rate is crucial to the experience, and if things have to get a little out of focus to keep the fights moving, so be it. There’s so much to enjoy about this game, and the Switch is a fine place to experience all the stories, exploration, and intense battles that it has to offer.
