While Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is undoubtedly a game for Dragon Ball fans, I feel that it’s those like me, who have an interest in it but haven’t found the time to sit down and watch it from beginning to end, that will get the most out of it.

It took a long time, but with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Bandai Namco finally fulfills the wishes of many fans. Even if the story is already known several times, the combat system and the game world provide exciting moments and know how to convince connoisseurs as well as newcomers. In addition, the Japanese developers have learned from the mistakes of various anime implementations and thereby created a gaming experience that more than lives up to the template.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a fairly good game that qualifies better than the sum of its parts. Some mechanics aren't quite convincing, but overall the game is one of the most inspired representations of Akira Toriyama's work.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a mixed bag. If you're a Dragon Ball fan, this game will offer so many nice moments and make you occasionally beam from ear to ear. But then during exploration and combat, things quickly become tedious. At full price, it's hard to recommend this game, but when it becomes affordable in a sale, it'll be hard for fans to resist.

Definitely not a masterpiece, but a huge video game for a true Dragon Ball Z fan.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is not the anime game to end all anime games. It's not going to convert any non-believers or onboard them into this decades-old classic universe. Even as someone who still re-watches DBZ, it can be grating at times — but the juice is mostly worth the squeeze.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an easy buy for any level of fan of Dragon Ball Z. Re-living the show's iconic moments by playing through them as key characters is a treat. Sure, some of these moments don't come across as impactful due to the game's format, and a lot of the nuances of the story beats are lost due to the speed with which it is delivered. But the sheer volume of events to play through, spread across a meaty 40-hour campaign, with easily double that for a 100% completion rate, combine to make a game that fans should be pleased with.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot takes inspiration from prior games while taking the kind of stylized enhancements to make the final product stand out from other franchise games. Kakarot is not without its own issues, but what it executes well more than make up for it. Kakarot will be one of those games down the line that fans will remember fondly.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is one of the best Dragon Ball games out there, but leaving behind the Dragon Ball name, it's one of the most generic and uninspired titles out there and could have benefitted greatly with a little more time in the oven.

While it’s not perfect, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an incredibly enjoyable experience. Not just a retelling of the story, but ultimately the definitive way to play the Dragon Ball Z saga.

While the rejection of these moments of Dragon Ball Z’s story is upsetting, Kakarot still plays well. It’s the Dragon Ball Z game we’ve always wanted; warts and all, Kakarot is hands-down a ballistic and powerful adaptation of one of anime’s greatest shows. Just like how CyberConnect 2’s Naruto games vastly improved by the time the fourth and final entry came around, Kakarot only requires minimal tweaking to become one of DBZ’s greatest games.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a huge ARPG game that has become the dream of every Dragon Ball fan. CyberConnect2 gives us a game that does not focus solely on combat and cinematics to give us a long adventure, but a title in which we grow with our character, which sometimes is as if we had an interactive chapter in front of us and that is full of touches of nostalgia through the melodies of the series or mythical dialogues in the cinematics.

Dragon ball Z: Kakarot is a game that has been crafted with a lot of care by Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2. It's the gift that keeps giving, after playing 10-12 hours of the game and still hadn't made it to Namek I was happy with the depth this game has to offer.

Poor RPG mechanics aside, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a great way to relive the DBZ's story, flaws and all.

A light and fun RPG that sometimes gets bogged down by its interweaving progression systems.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot finally brings what many fans have been asking for and takes the iconic franchise into new territory with a more open world and a ton of RPG mechanics. While this fan-service increase in power level definitely transforms the well-known story into a new form, it's still far from going Ultra Instinct.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot feels like it doesn’t know what it really wants to be. It’s great as a love letter to all things Dragon Ball but fails to impress in any way as an action-adventure JRPG.
