Fine to fill time or bring existing pokemon fans to other styles of games, but not for much more.

Rescue Team DX's charming story and beautiful visuals aren't good enough to carry the whole game by themselves, especially since the meat and potatoes here – the combat and dungeon crawling – are so repetitive and monotonous.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is exactly what you expect it to be: it's a fun dungeon crawler with a cute art style, all your favourite Pokémon and an overarching message of love and friendship that is generally best suited to younger players.

Ultimately, how much enjoyment you get out of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX depends upon how big of a fan of the franchise you are; the gameplay, whilst nothing revolutionary, is solid enough to grab your attention but really does start get grindy as all get out by the later stages of the game.

To those who never played any of the series, this is the perfect time to dive in. If you can forgive needing to turn bosses into doormats, and failing to hire the odd Pokemon, you’ll probably find the greatest challenge the franchise has offered yet.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a mixed bag. While it's great to see the series return, the fresh coat of paint isn't enough to hide the myriad fundamental flaws with it that have since been addressed in later entries. It is fun in short bursts, the new style looks lovely, and Poké-fans will be happy just to step back into the world. Best of all, this may point towards the other entries receiving Switch upscales, and perhaps even a whole new entry.

As a fan of Pokémon, Mystery Dungeon roguelikes, and whimsical, light-hearted, and wholesome art styles, Rescue Team DX clicked with me on every level.

It may not be perfect but I have enjoyed my time with the game and I definitely recommend it to the Pokemon fans who love the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series and have really fond memories of them!

A good remake of a decent game. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX will be loved by those who played the original. Sadly it lacks the depth or challenge needed to be interesting to a wider gaming audience.

Overall though, the flow of the game knows how to stay on top and kept me hooked until the very end. The improvements are more or less throwaways, but the core adventure is still a solid one. That is what counts in the end.

This is not the best Mystery Dungeon game in the genre if you are carving for one, but for Pokémon fans, it is worth a visit especially if they have enjoyed the previous Mystery Dungeon games in the series.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is, rather unfortunately, far removed from the game it once was. The quality of life additions, changes to Friend Areas, and a distinct lack of challenge until post-game have stripped out what the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon community most loved. It’s a shame Rescue Team DX doesn’t live up to its original gameplay, especially when the storyline deserves so much more. Newcomers may love it; veterans may fear disappointment. Toss an apple to a Pokémon veteran, they’ll hunger for more.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a top-notch example of what Mystery Dungeon games are capable of. Once you pick it up, it's hard to put it down and with dozens of hours of challenging fun; it's definitely worth adding to your game library.

As a remake, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is certainly beefed up in content compared to the original games: better graphics, more dungeons and even more Pokémon will intrigue newcomers and make long standing fans revisit this on par roguelike experience.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is basically a successful Dungeon Crawler, with over 20 hours of campaigning and an almost endless list of side quests. Apart from the sluggish and sleepy start, Rescue Team DX knows how to motivate thanks to its charming presentation and addictive Pokemon mechanics. The Rogue-Lite with Pokemon label is a nice and not too demanding pastime, especially when you're on the go, and in times of budget smartphone games, it's a welcome change.

Rescue Team DX is exactly how a remake should be. This is a game that’s faithful to the original, with some overhauls that make it more streamlined and accessible to a brand new generation of players.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX’s gameplay is tedious and bland. Its repetitive nature shows itself off very early on and doesn’t as the game goes on. A visually appealing Pokémon title held back by its lack of variety, the unique storytelling and visuals aren’t enough to take away from the failings of Rescue Team DX.
