In the end, Mega 39 does one, very special thing: it takes the incredible Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone, and makes it portable.

I’m still not sure that you can ever really call a rhythm game “perfect,” but Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix is as closest to perfection as I’ve ever seen a rhythm game get. As much as I’m aware that Vocaloid music isn’t for everyone, I honestly can’t help but recommend that anyone into rhythm games do themselves a favor and at least give this game a chance. You’ll only be hurting yourself in the long run if you don’t!

It's hard to go wrong with Hatsune Miku and all the other Vocaloids in one of the most enjoyable rhythm titles on Switch. Although everything about how to play is simple at face value, it gets more challenging the higher the difficulty goes and constantly challenges one's rhythm and ability to be alert without getting distracted.

Overall I really loved my time playing Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix. The music videos put a smile on my face and some of the songs I really loved and have stuck in my head hours after playing. With its huge list of songs and additional DLC you can add even more to the experience and there was already a lot to love about this game. The only thing some fans may not like is there is no The DIVA room mode like in the PS3/Vita game Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd. Other than that I really love this game!

Whether or not you play Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix on a Nintendo Switch or a Switch Lite, there’s a lot to offer in such a small package regardless if you buy the DLC bundle or not. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix is crammed with unlimited fun and awesome music, optimised for both playing at home and on the go. Despite the fewer number of songs in comparison to the PS4 counterpart, the Switch edition boasts unique features, modes and content, although there is a lot of day-one DLC which I feel should have been included. If you like Hatsune Miku, you’ll love this edition – it’s more of the same but playable on the go and at home – you can even opt to have PS button prompts so you can imagine you’re playing the Vita 2.0. Rhythm game fans and those looking for a private social-distancing concert in their own home should certainly check this out.

Personally, I think rhythm games are best suited to portable systems, with their pick-up-and-play nature going hand in hand with bite-sized gameplay. Mega Mix is a game I can see myself coming back to time and time again, and it’s bursting with enough content that I’m sure to have some fun with Miku for years to come.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+ is a full-on, frenetic rhythm experience. The game explores established mechanics in an immense variety of music and difficulties. The content impresses with the vast amount of music of different styles, and the colorful and whimsical atmosphere offers an immersive experience. The PC adaptation is basic and competent, but it's hard not to be bothered by the absence of some options and significant new content, especially for series veterans. In the end, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+ is an excellent rhythmic title.

For the fans who may be picking up this title as their first Miku game, there’s an absolute ton of content featuring your favourite songs and adored pop idols. For those whose been playing since the early days of Hatsune Miku you may be a bit disappointed with the lack of new songs. But with the added addition of Mix Mode, there’s still enough content to grab your attention.

It may just be an arcade-inspired rhythm game, but it's a damn good one at that. Mega Mix+ never tries to be more than it promises. The lack of any real sense of progression isn't ideal, but that can mostly be overlooked thanks to the immense tracklist and consistently fun gameplay.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix is a strong portable version of a truly joyous rhythm game which loses out a little in terms of track numbers in comparison to the likes of series stablemate Future Tone, but makes up for this with a surprisingly solid Switch-exclusive motion control mode alongside touchscreen controls and a new art style that helps keep things running smoothly as you blast your way through its eclectic mix of excellent music.
