Stuck in the past, Saints Row 3 still offers a lot of fun, you just have to look past some pretty dated humour to find it

Saints Row: The Third Remastered takes a 9 year old game that needed a spruce up, shines it up real nice and blasts it in your face on modern day consoles. The visual improvements here work really well even at 30 frames per second, bringing the game close to today's high standards, but there’s still some aspects of the game that betray its age, namely the NPC AI.

If you’re looking for something outside Los Santos and would rather hit people with a dick bat, this isn’t a bad way to spend some time indoors.

Saints Row: The Third is on the high end of remasters. The bulk of the work has went in to visual upgrades, but that was what was needed most. With the game not aiming for realism, you can get away with the odd bit of sloppy AI or an unforeseen glitch. Sometimes it only ends up adding to the insanity and hilarity going on all around you. If you want a crazy, fun and exciting open world to blow stuff up in, you can’t go wrong!

I really liked Saints Row: the Third when it came out some nine years ago, and I’m impressed by how well it actually holds up. Yeah, the driving and shooting feel quite basic, but honestly GTA V doesn’t feel any better in terms of its core movement, shooting and driving yet people still love it. Saints Row: the Third usually finds inventive, funny and entertaining ways to stage its missions and gameplay so that you never notice the problems with it. The result is a game that’s just plain fun and has a bunch of memorable missions, moments and characters. So many games try to be gritty and realistic, or present high concepts,. Sometimes you really just want to sit down and ride a panda-quadbike around while dressed like a wizard and shooting at Luchadores.

Despite a few issues with a lack of upgrades in some areas, Saint’s Row The Third Remastered is a great way to dip your shoes back into the franchise and remember why Saint’s Row 3 helped the series find an identity, allowing it to go on to do bigger and better things in Saint’s Row IV.

I get this isn’t the newest game on the block and the appetite is ravenous for an all-new Saints Row. Fortunately, there’s never been a better time to dive into Saints Row The Third, which can still draw a smile and runs like an absolute dream. It’s as close to a remake as the game will surely get, utilising the best modern technology of the day, coupling it with rock solid performance. You honestly couldn’t ask for more. Seriously, let’s just get Sperasoft remastering everything from now on.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered is one of the best remasters in recent years, completely overhauling the visuals and performance. Almost everything has been updated and upgraded bar the engine underneath, a similar concept we saw with Outcast: Second Contact. The game is a mindless mayhem sandbox with a bunch of missions and crazy activities to work your way through at your own pace, offering tonnes of fun either playing on your own or with another player. The game was fun back in 2011, offering crazy non-serious GTA-style gameplay, and it’s just as fun playing it now, in 2020.

Ultimately, this is still the same Saints Row: The Third in terms of story and game play, though it does include 100% of the content from Saints Row: The Third: The Full Package, meaning all of the original game’s DLC is available to you from the jump. The visual upgrades the game has received are truly amazing, and are well worth making the journey back to Steelport whether you’re a long time fan or a newcomer to the series. While I did really enjoy how absolutely bonkers Saints Row IV was, Saints Row: The Third is truly the essential title in the series, and being able to experience it at this level of quality is a strange, unexpected gift. If Deep Silver is looking to set the standard for what remasters should be, they have absolutely thrown down the gauntlet in terms of what players should expect going forward.

This version of Saints Row: The Third is really short on improvements, there is some better lighting and textures here and there but the overall experience doesn't really feel that "remastered" and the gameplay feels very outdated by today's industry standards for the newcomers to the series.

Deep Silver and Volition have something really special with the Saints Row franchise, and it honestly doesn’t get any better than Saints Row: The Third Remastered.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered is ridiculous in so many ways. It’s over-the-top to the point of parody. It’s hilarious, it’s outrageous, and it can be quite offensive to delicate souls. It’s not perfect, but it’s a bloody good game made better with a few coats of new paint and polish.

I went into Saints Row: The Third Remastered expecting just a clean lick of paint here and there, but I was left blown away by the effort that Sperasoft have made in revamping the game. Seriously, the visuals are vastly improved with all new models and textures put in place, the new lighting system brings the city of Steelport to life, whilst the steady performance ensures everything runs smoothly throughout. Of course, that doesn’t fix some of the dated gameplay mechanics, but who cares? It’s still super enjoyable to partake in its frantic and over-the-top action and I had a lot of fun blasting through the game once more. Whether this is your first time with the Saints or you’re returning for another romp with the third entry in the series, Saints Row: The Third Remastered is an excellent remaster that definitely deserves gamers’ attention.

We played the original Saints Row The Third to death when it released and found the game took us up to the upper echelons of gaming madness but still kept its toes in some warped reality. In this regard, the game is full of character and we love it. The remaster then makes an already cool game even better and for those who love visual elements will especially be pleased at Volition’s efforts here.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered is the definitive way to play the best game in the Saints Row series. Running through the streets of Steeport has never looked better, but the game still manages to show its age in some areas. Regardless, the enhanced graphics, hilarious story, and timeless gameplay make this remaster worth checking out for long time fans or those who have never touched a Saints Row game in their life.
