It presents as a modern game but retains the essence of an old one, and it’s that combination that well and truly entrenches the original Mafia, now reborn, as the best in the series.

Mafia: Definitive Edition maintains its source material's amazing story, adds some solid gameplay and brings the graphics into the 21st century for an overall experience that's one of the few remakes that is genuinely worth a purchase.

Time wasn't gentle to the original Mafia; a remake was a neccesity. I’m glad I could experience this story once more. I completed the game with pleasure, admiring the recreated Lost Heaven, and some really nice graphics. The sequels have nothing on this remaster, and even though some elements could use more polish, this is most definitely a must-play!

A more than welcome return for a seminal crime classic, Mafia: Definitive Edition has all of the attributes you could possibly want from a great remake – fresh visuals, overhauled gameplay, and a reverence for its source material.

A real remake that thoroughly updates an 18-year-old title into a proper next-gen game, and actually makes it better than the original.

This from-the-ground-up remake takes a certified classic and makes it even better with a thoughtful modern update that absolutely nails the storytelling and atmosphere of great mafia fiction

Mafia Definitive Edition is an ambitious undertaking, partially mined by glitches and lack of game progress from Mafia III but faithfully remaking the original game and adding nuances that surprisingly keep staying loyal to 2002's masterpiece.

Underneath the beauty, there’s a morality tale that slowly unfolds amid the sometimes overblown spectacle. An element that was present in the original but feels more prevalent and potent here. The ending backs an even bigger gut punch this time around.

Mafia Definitive Edition is a remarkable example that a remake game should show to gamers. From graphic to story-telling, this game develop a lot compare to the original game. But there are few glitches that need to be fixed.

With this Definitive Edition, players can now play all three Mafia games together giving the player many hours inside the world these teams created. I highly recommend this game to new and older players alike.

Like Mafia 3, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a game that works as a good movie. It's not a game that works as a good *game*. It's buggy, it's clunky, and is often just frustrating or unsatisfying. Hopefully, Hanger 13 is able to learn more lessons from this game because I'm not sure a fourth Mafia game can survive this sort of treatment.

Yet another ground-up remake of a classic game, but our review of Mafia: Definitive Edition shows that it does not just fall in line with the current trend. Hangar 13 comes back to the roots of its series with a heavy emphasis on a linear, compelling story about a man going from a poor cab driver to a ruthless, successful mobster.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is crying out for a stronger hand at the wheel and a deeper rethink, for in its current state, it's oblivious of the fact that it's been 18 years since the original. That's a long time for any piece of entertainment, more so in video gaming, and Mafia: Definitive Edition is a long way from what it needed to be.

Hangar 13 have done an amazing job in modernising Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven into a truly powerful narrative experience, one which I hope that fans of the original will be pleasantly surprised by.

The hardcore fans of the original will find a lot to nit-pick. But they can return to the original, to remember how archaic it is, or can they try to beat the game in classic mode, "enjoying" the quirks of the original recipe. Despite the criticism, we have to admit that Hangar 13 managed to take an 18 years old game and make it work in 2020, without crushing its soul.

Even with its faults, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a fantastic remake of the original game. Its story is as engrossing as ever, tempting you to play just one more chapter before hitting that quit button. And while the gameplay isn’t perfect, it’s solid enough to keep you entertained.

The Mafia franchise again presents one of the medium's best-written stories, though the series still stumbles on building something special around that story.

The definitive edition of Mafia isn't perfect, but the experience is charming thanks to its ability captures the soul of an exciting era to tell us one of the best crime stories in video games. The experience is enough to reinvigorate a game loved by many, but it falls short when it comes to fulfil its full potential.
