Shantae and the Seven Sirens is an excellent return to form for the belly-dancing indie heroine. It’s a game that looked back to its previous iterations, took notes of what people liked the most about each one of them, and added everything to a blender together with some new gameplay features and quality of life improvements.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens offers yet another thoroughly enjoyable and super charming adventure for gamers to embark on – even if there isn’t a whole lot different on show when compared with previous entries in the series. Still, with the more intuitive controls, the creative Monster Cards, and the slick level design, there’s no doubting that Shantae and the Seven Sirens hits the same high standard we’ve come to expect from WayForward’s entertaining series of adventures.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens stays true to classic entries but pushes the series forward with the inclusion of unique abilities and new characters. Thankfully the game’s smartphone roots don’t appear to hold back the console experience, and we are left with one of the best Shantae games to date. The load times and lack of direction might cause a few points of frustration, but not enough to make this experience any less enjoyable.

Shantae returns with her best adventure, at least in the technical side, with some original ideas (like the card system), but at the same time being faithful to the original formula. An entertaining metroidvania that will enjoy, in first place, longtime series' fans, as will the newcomers.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is an entirely typical game in the Metroid-like genre that will be very familiar to anyone who plays them. Despite this, the game's gorgeous visuals, extremely responsive controls, strong level design, and witty writing make it a joy to play through.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a summer adventure designed for children and casual players, offering a simple but interesting gameplay, nice cartoon graphics and a large world to explore. And this is what you need right now after a long absence of interesting games and quarantine.

Admittedly it is rather a reinvention than a creation, but WayForward focused on the fundamentals of the saga, with the construction of a world in trees as massive as complex.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens adds one more chapter to a very appreciated series and while the ambition to be the best game to carry the Shantae name is not a full success, this is a very appealing work that combines a marvelous presentation, good level design and a gameplay experience that will please veterans of the series as well as welcome any newcomers.

While the difficulty level is unbalanced everything else in Shantae and the Seven Sirens works together to create an incredibly entertaining platform-adventure.

All in all, Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a well-made and enjoyable addition to the franchise. The gameplay is stronger than ever, and it retains pretty much everything the series was known for, both good and bad. The only thing that makes it difficult to recommend is the low difficulty level, but if you don't mind an easy time, then it will do the job nicely. Wayforward has shown increasing confidence and capabilities with each passing Shantae game, and Seven Sirens gives me a lot of hope for its next one.

Honestly, it’s hard to stay mad at my favorite genie. There’s just a lot to smile about in any of these games, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens is no different. Sure, I would have liked more to do, and a bit more challenge, but it was still a fun ride. It successfully cut out the irritating elements from past games while adopting elements I enjoyed from others. And for $29.99, it’s still a pretty good deal. I spent nearly eight hours to beat the game, and had about 70 percent item completion. Once you’re done, you can still tackle New Game Plus, as well as trying to unlock game clear screens. This might not have been the entry that took the crown from Pirate’s Curse for me, but it came damn close. I just hope that WayForward continues to improve on and iterate their formula for these games, and hopefully the next one will be the very best. If nothing else, the ending of Seven Sirens provides a good starting point for whatever comes next.

All these years after that first Game Boy Color game, the Shantae franchise continues to deliver one of the most delightful experiences in gaming. Shantae and the Seven Sirens is funny, wholesome, and just plain fun. It also offers a killer soundtrack. Some might find that the main quest is a little too easy, and the Monster Card system doesn't offer anything too significant, but these are minor quibbles. Shantae and the Seven Sirens is another great entry in an already strong series.

Overall if you like the recent Shantae games you will like Seven Sirens. Do not expect anything game changing from this game as it is more of a follow on continuation from the previous game in terms of style and substance.

Even though Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is still the gold standard for the franchise, I enjoyed my time with Shantae and the Seven Sirens a great deal. Here's hoping the next adventure captures more of that classic half-genie magic.

Shantae gets a bit repetitive in her fifth game. It is still good, but it could (and should) be better.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a charming and whimsical Metroidvania adventure that suffers from a case of repetition. It is still highly enjoyable if you have loved the series so far but it is clear that the formula has to be freshened up for any potential sequel.

In the end, Shantae and the Seven Sirens overcomes its issues with a variety of fantastic visuals, tight controls, and a new cast of characters that mesh perfectly with the old characters.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens knew how to take advantage of all that the current platforms have to offer, providing beautiful graphics, simple and intuitive gameplay and great performance. However, the feeling I've got from playing is that WayForward preferred to rely more on the popularity and charisma of the character in order to sell his game, instead to dare a little more and deliver something really new. The game in general is not bad, but the impression left is that it has not evolved, something that should be natural for a franchise that reached the fifth title.
