Warborn has its own merits. It's a sharper and more dynamic tactics strategy game, and what initially seems like limitations with a small number of units and game modes proves to be this game's great strength by allowing it to deliver the kind of balance that even the best tactics games struggle with.

Warborn is a stylish, smartly designed and content packed sci-fi strategy game. The 30~ hour campaign tells a fun narrative, despite a rocky start, that tests the player to overcome a decent variety of foes and puzzle like missions. With a tactical depth that’s immediately clear but surprisingly deep, it’s a joy to play both on and offline. A few niggles aside that could be fixed post release, Warborn is one of the better strategy games you’ll play this year.

Warborn offers a slick and fun strategy experience, though it is one that plays it safe and doesn’t really offer anything that you wouldn’t have seen before. Fortunately, what it does offer is of a high quality, so it’s hard to complain – especially when you consider there’s plenty of hours of enjoyment to be had across its lengthy campaign and the intuitive map editor (which can also be used for online battles, which is always a plus). If you’re looking for some neat strategy fun on your Nintendo Switch, you’ll certainly want to check Warborn’s frantic sci-fi action out.

So overall, Warborn provides some good Turned Based Strategy. The campaign is fun and provides some challenge but other than getting a higher rank, it doesn’t provide much replayability so it’s a good thing that there’s both an offline skirmish mode and online cross platform multiplayer mode between the Xbox One, the Switch and the PC to keep you busy for a while to come!

Warborn is a solid turn based RTS that could stand to take a risk or two. Too safe, needs improvement.

Warborn set out to bring a great tactics game inspired by mech anime and I would say it has. It misses the mark here and there but fans of tactics games should consider this a victory.

Warborn is a solid and dependable Advance Wars-alike. There's nothing wrong with being an unspectacular offering, but with a few additions, alterations and improvements, Warborn could have been absolutely essential for Advance Wars fans. It's so close to being awesome, but we'll just have to settle for pretty good instead.

Adding to the replay value are a map editor, an AI Skirmish mode, and even online multiplayer, so there is a sizeable amount of content on offer here. Ultimately, the experience feels rote and played out; even though there is some fun to be had, it doesn't last long enough to make the whole campaign worth fighting through. Fans of the genre should consider picking this one up, but it's true what they say: Warborn never changes.

Warborn is a game that teeters on the edge of brilliance. Poor AI and a few quality of life issues tarnish an otherwise great game. A solid TBS that can be enjoyed by newcomers and veterans alike.

Given the perpetual call for the return of the Advance Wars series and the general excitement people have for games involving hulking mechs in theory Warborn is a solid combination of elements for success...

Warborn takes the tried and tested Advance Wars formula, adds a bunch of huge Mechs, some overwrought '90s anime-inspired cutscenes and a story that sees you take control of four different commanders as you seek to restore order to the Auros system. There's nothing inspired or unique here; Raredrop Games is playing it safe and straight down the line, but fans of the genre, and most especially fans of massive Gundam-esque robots, will get a solid (if unspectacular) experience out of what's on offer with this one. Just don't expect any surprises.

While Warborn is not technically a bad game, it's fairly unremarkable. The story is bland, combat is more tactics than anything else and there isn't the charm that made similar franchises work. I don't have a Laharl to drive the experience forward or Domon Kasshu to deliver a monologue that results in a powerful blast, it's just a very technical tactical RPG that has solid tactics and little more. For some, that is probably enough but there are better options out there.

Warborn is a decent tactical strategy game, but it's not for everyone as typical gamers will probably have a hard time getting into it. Go for it only if you are a fan of the genre.

Warborn has a great foundation of SRPG mechanics and beautiful animations. However, I never once felt connected or concerned about my units or challenged after the first few minutes of a match. Each campaign plays out relatively the same, and after hours of gameplay, you’ll feel like you are merely playing the same mission over and over.

Warborn is a competent title in its presentation and gameplay but its proposal is disappointing due to serious execution flaws. I emphasize that it is an excellent game for those who do not know the genre or prefer a very light experience in tactical games by turns. But proposing something more than the campaign and leaving something to be desired was disappointing. It could have a little place in the sun beside big names but it is better to remain in the shade so as not to suffer from heat stroke until you solve these problems and show your real potential.

It gets all the basics of the genre right, but it simply lacks any depth, and becomes an incredibly grindy only a few missions into the campaign. Interestingly, all the basics are there, it merely is lacking any exciting options, choices or selections; this is in addition to a very bad 'dead zone' tactical problem that is a huge contributor to the slog. Very rapidly a player will have seen everything there is to offer and there just isn't much beyond it. The game just starts to become frustrating the more it is played.

Warborn is a game that puts us on a board with political struggles between its commanders and factions, but in which this fight is not transmitted to the gameplay, sinning slowly on some occasions and having a very simple campaign to complete in a few hours . The story engages because it is entertaining and puts you within those factions, but if it were accompanied by a better gameplay it would be a more interesting game. Even so, if you are a fan of strategy, it is a curious game because of the armor you control, easy to complete and with a good story.
