It is probably more often than not that long-time coming revivals don't stick the landing. Rather, they often feel cynical, desperate or misguided. Take Steps, for example. This absolutely is not the case with Beyond a Steel Sky. The writing and the way it weaves everything together honestly puts some of the biggest budget AAA movie titles to shame. Yes, there are some rough edges afforded by modern ascribe and default, but the fundamentals of a good story and adventure game are all present. More important is that it has a personality unique unto itself. It's clear why Revolution Software has such a loyal fanbase after all of these years.

Beyond the Steel Sky is full of big and small issues. From the fact that it took 28 years for it to come back, to its gameplay getting repetitive, to somehow ugly character designs and of course tons of bugs; but there is another fact here that no matter how many problems and no matter how big or small they are, it's very hard no to fall in love with it. Beyond the Steel Sky may not be a big budget AAA game that meets the standards of the industry these days, but it is a beautiful, fun and deep journey that takes you back to the good old days when gaming was just about gaming.

Net of some technical compromise, perhaps unacceptable for many, but justified by the budget of an evidently limited production, Beyond a Steel Sky is an appreciable title, and a worthy heir to that timeless classic that was Beneath a Steel Sky.

On the whole, Beyond a Steel Sky is a wonderful example of how that old-school puzzle adventure game can translate into the modern gaming landscape. It’s thought-provoking, good-looking, and fleshed out, all whilst retaining the spirit of the puzzler. Sure, it isn’t the most polished experience but it’s a well-crafted game with bags to offer for anyone who wants a story to engage with and some puzzles to stroke their chin at.

In conclusion, a graphic adventure with a soul from 25 years ago and that is perfectly enjoyed today.

Beyond a Steel Sky is a great successor to a genre that seemed stuck between oblivion and an evolution lacking its essence. Its puzzles are original and satisfying, its world is interesting and engaging, and overall, it's a tremendously fun experience.

‎Beyond a Steel Sky is the perfect sequel to its predecessor, a journey that catches you from beginning to end thanks to an interesting story that manages to connect with us because of its similarity to real life. A story that processes us through a filmic and polished artistic design, putting the icing on the cake its wonderful soundtrack. However, like everything in this life it has its great shadows, mainly technical errors that can be solved in future patches, although others such as its artificial intelligence are much more complicated.‎

Revolution Software is back in the spotlight in better shape than ever. In the footsteps of that never really forgotten Beneath a Steel Sky takes shape a sequel worthy of its playful heritage, which finds in this new chapter a three-dimensional space and an unprecedented fluidity. Adventure with serious but not serious tones, Beyond a Steel Sky succeeds in the daring enterprise of combining the charm of the classic with that of the modern, giving life to a truly charismatic and playfully valid product.

It's definitely worth playing Beyond a Steel Sky. An intriguing story and a rather unique world full of colorful characters made this title draw me without memory for a few good hours.

At first glance, Beyond a Steel Sky had good potential. I was curious about its premise of solving puzzles in a story within a cyberpunk futuristic world. Though most of my expectations were met, multiple problems, including some pertaining to the performance and the plot, ended up limiting an experience that could have been a must-have experience in anyone's [game] library. The plot is good but far from spectacular, especially because of how it depends on past events. Characters are unique and charming, especially when it comes to their voices, but they have simplistic animations that aren't natural sometimes. The puzzles are interesting, even if sometimes they demand an epiphany to be solved. In the end, it's a good recommendation for those who loved Beneath a Steel Sky or the fans of the puzzle adventure genre.

Beyond a Steel Sky is an enticing and well-written adventure that presents reflections on our own society with a text rich in humor and adventure. Though it errs by making its story a little too linear, the excellent presentation and stunning visuals, totally voiced dialogues and good hack puzzles, along with its smart tips system, make this game a good recommendation for lovers of adventures, point and click and the cyberpunk theme.

Having never played the original, but certainly having played my fair share of old-school adventure titles, Beyond a Steel Sky definitely has an authentic feel consistent with the classic era but with some more modern trappings...

Beyond a Steel Sky is a brilliant sequel to the 1994 classic point-and-click game, Beneath a Steel Sky. The gameplay and mechanics have been perfectly modernised without losing the humour and style of the original game, reuniting both Robert and Joey once more with the same witty dynamic. The new hacking mechanic greatly enhances the puzzle elements, combined with good old-fashioned inventory and environmental puzzles, offering a fun distraction from the well-written narrative that’ll have you hooked. It may have been 26 years (ten in-game), but it was worth the wait – let’s just hope we don’t have to wait that long for their next adventure!

Whilst there are some annoying quirks in the game, they are mostly able to be overlooked and could easily be rectified in a post-release patch although I passionately believe that post-release patches shouldn’t be needed but I digress. For adventure fans and fans of graphic novels, there is plenty of content in Beyond a Steel Sky with great character portrayal and music that really evocates the world you must survive in and overall it is a great game worth serious consideration.

To have fun in Beyond a Steel Sky you do not need to know the first installment - just like this type of production. However, it is worth remembering that this is not a production without errors and on the occasion of the debut on new consoles, they are still not avoided.

For better or worse, Beyond A Steel Sky sticks to the conventions of its predecessor and classic adventure games. Fans of Beneath A Steel Sky are sure to be satisfied with Robert Foster’s newest escapade into Union City, but some of its charms may be lost on a more modern audience.
